I've got 4 LEDs in the kitchen and 2 pendants. And virtually every other room has two as well. You're so right, it used to be shrapnel for a pack of 10 now it would be £15. Ali has been using candles and I may join her. I have a lot of wood to get rid of this year so the open fire is being well used at the moment. I brought a few logs in last night and a blimmin hornet flew off a log into the house. I think it was on its last legs but has disappeared into the coats and shoes, never to be seen, hopefully. Well I can't find it now.
Have a great night too.
We've had hornets fly out of the log basket too! Plus wasp beetles, pine borer beetles, giant house spiders  At least they have provided me with some inspiration for paintings :rotfl:
Candles sound lovely - I'm going to try some later.

Music is great isn't it. we were singing Sheena Easton's 9 to 5 in the office the other day, so I had a look at the old YouTube clips, brought back some memories.
I used to hate the carpet sweeper at home, never used to pick up properly, and then used to dump everything back out again. Although knowing my family it would have been a broken one that someone had dumped. They really are a great idea, perhaps I might try one again as my dyson is pretty old and I hate dragging it out. Plus I need the exercise.
I need to sort out some candles, do you have any recommendations for value and safety Ali? I love having the fire on, but it takes me 30 mins to get it going, and we are planning on being in bed early during the week so if we get home at 6 it's really not time effective. I did see some paper logs quite cheaply somewhere but can't remember now and they don't really put out much warmth on their own, so candles would be a good one to brighten up the hearth in the week.
Oh Fortune, our house sounds like yours. It feels like a constant struggle against the wildlife. I've had rooks down the chimney and squirrels in the bedroom. I think my next place will be a modern apartment in town, although this place is wonderful really.
Brogden, I am not happy to hear about the champagne :rotfl: although Im guessing it's virtual, and as our dear Litly deserves it I'll say no more.My DHs champagne lifestyle on a cava budget is why I've ended up on here. I was wowing at your totals and then realised that not so long ago mine were the same. We had about £26k on cards and 2 cars with loans totalling about £30k. We are steadily getting there and its amazing how little by little we have taken control. So keep going, it's great to see your determination - we will all be cheering you on.

Candles..ooh, extensive research this time last year :rotfl: revealed best value were the very large Matalan (something like 80 hrs burning) for £3.50. I bought a load of Wilko's Christmas/rustic smaller ones in the sale @ 50p each so we're well stocked up this winter and also 2 huge pillars in Dunelm reduced by 75% down to £3 each that were coloured to match our decor.
Best bet is to check the burning time on the label underneath, candle content is more important than size for how long it will last.
The chunky pillar candles are my fave as the slim dinner ones don't last very long at all and drip more wax. I've used old side plates to sit them on (destined for car booting originally) but those glass dishes for them are the cheapest 'holders' I've seen.
I really liked the scented candle in a glass that I received for Christmas last year, but at £20 from The White Company I'd not go and buy it myself.
We've got a large Range shop here now but I daren't look too closely in there. Might end up bankrupt :rotfl::rotfl:

Thanks Ali. My nearest range is about 10 miles but will be closer to my new job
I did wonder about the candles. Good advice thanks. I was in TKMaxx the other day and they had a huge range of them. Also saw some tealights in B&Q but was wondering what the best value is. I'll look at burn time like you say as I'd rather something I didn't have to keep changing.OSWL (start 13st) by 30Jun20 6/10

I have tea lights on the go as well sometimes - they tend to last just one eve before having to replace, so cost wise, have to compare a bag of them vs. a chunky pillar candle that'll last a similar length of time or longer.
Dunelm did some lovely winter fragrant tea lights last year - 15 for £1.50 I think, but gone after a few nights  Need more to create enough room light.
Play around and see what combination of candles works for you.Back on the DFW Wagon:

Thanks. Range pillar candle £1.79 x 35 hrs = approx 5p per hour.
40 tea lights at £1.99 x 4 hours each = approx 1p per hour. So can burn 4 tea lights for an hour for price of 1 hour of pillar candle. Will give it a go and see.
At least I now know what to look for in pence per hour. :T:rotfl:
But I want to find out how much a bulb per hour costs. There must be some heat from a bulb? Gosh it's all technical :rotfl:
Could have one fragranced tea light and three plain on the go.OSWL (start 13st) by 30Jun20 6/10

Last jan I picked up some large pillar candles in ikea post Christmas for very little. They were numbered 1 to 4 as they were meant for advent but I just put the numbers to face the wall and no one could tell. Candles... Does this really work to provide some heat?! I like tealights for mood lighting but the pool of light is so shallow that I have to light half a dozen just to see the corners of the table!
Been over to visit dear Brogdenskipped out on the champers though. Got a rip roaring headache, booze always makes it worse.
Off to bedskilots of love SS xx
