    Hi everyone

Im actually quite concerned about the lady as she was going to the council to sort things out and we haven't heard from her.

    I hope she is ok?

Please post if you see this.

Im not sure of the amount that the OP is thinking she may have been overpaid, but after looking at some of the cases on Benefit Fraud Blog then it does it appear that it would have to be alot of money to go to prison so i hope she takes your advice.

Are you still a benefit fraud investigator?

    Yes. For my sins.

Generally it is fairly substantial overpayments & deliberate systematic frauds that result in a custodial.

Approaching the council & making a voluntary disclosure will go very much in her favour either way.

Basically you are sc*ewed. Don't worry it is very unlikely you would get sentenced to prison - to be honest it is probably 99.999% reoccuring you won't UNLESS you have a long criminal record and/or a long history of benefit fraud.

The worst is you might get a fine but the repayments will be dependent on income - just confess and don't worry : unless you are running a horse stadium and fleet of Lamborghini's that is in which case expect 10 years.
They are looking to jail the mindfull fraudsters not the minor leaugers...
  • Like others who have expressed their concern, I too was worried about the OP. The last time she posted was on the morning of the 24th, on Monday, when she was intending to go to the Council, and she hasn't posted since.

But her profile shows that she was last on the site, the following day, Tuesday, at 9 at night, so I wonder why she didn't update us? Any ideas anyone?

I'm the same sandrascarlet. I keep checking to see if she has posted. As you can see it's gone 2am and I got up for a drink but checked. It wouldn't bother me at all if it wasn't for the title of the thread.

I hate to think that anyone is in that state over something that can be sorted out.

People that want to kill themselves usually just go off and do it, Saying that I do hope the OP is ok. The fact that they have been online but not updated implies they are either attention seeking, embarrassed or selfish. People are concerned about you OP, so please do update. I do hope you are ok. I personally think you are panicking and it's unlikely to be a custodial sentence. Please keep in touch.

It's the title of the thread that concerns me too, especially as the OP has young children. I'm up half the night with DH, who has severe Alzheimer's, and in the wee small hours, I keep wondering if one of those kiddies has got up, and found their Mum has carried out her threat.

And I too keep checking to see if she has posted.

I don't want to cause more alarm but that is a myth - it's more common than you think for people to talk about killing themselves before doing it.

It's possible the OP had a few drinks, hence being a bit over dramatic.
