Pit Bill? Sounds like a Tough Puppy.0 -
Think it was just a dramatic way to say how upset she is- I certainly didn't get any impression that it was suicide threat.
Oh & "just cancelling" your claim will inevitably draw attention to you not having reported any changes for sometime. You then lose the right to say that you took steps to put it right yourself. Not a good move0 -
I am 75 years old wife is 70 and we are on pension credit , housing and council tax benefit. I am due to receive £15k soon to be distributed to my late mothers grandchildren.
My concern is that if the cheque goes into my bank account the Dwp will stop all my benefts although the money is not mine. Is the permitted amount of £8k per couple or each person. If it is each that is not a problem as the total will be less than £16k. Could I just hold the , money in my account long enough for the cheque to clear then withdraw the cash and distribute it without it affecting my benefit. I have a savings account that is still active with 10p in it for which mum and I were card holders could I use that account?
Any advice would be appreciated0 -

You would have better starting a new thread.
You said YOU are due to receive £15k to be distributed, The question will be, who was the money actually left to?
If left to the grandchildren, why is it being paid to you?
If left to you, and you wish to distribute it, you may find you are treated as still having the money as you will be giving away something that should be yours
Is this the payment from the house that you part own? - are the benefits people aware that you have a share in another property?0 -

The first thing you need to do is check whether you have an Assessed Income Period. You can do this by looking at your latest Pension Credit award letter.
If you have this then read the notes about it. You do not have to report a change in savings if you have an assessed income period.
If you do not have this then you do not have to worry too much.
You are allowed to have £10000 between you and after that any amount over the 10K is deducted from your pension credit at the rate of £1 for every extra £500 (or part of).
If you have no other savings then you would lose approx. £12 per week.
Whether this is your money or not will depend on the manner in which you received the money. Was it willed to you but you want to give it to your mother's grandchildren? Or were you acting as the executor and distributing the money as per her will?0 -

Could you not ask the solicitor to make the queues out to them ?
As the money is technically yours, you should be able to tell the solicitor where you want it to go.0 -
            Hi there you all.
I am really sorry I made people upset and worried about me.
I also participate in other internet forums and posters there are not as caring as here.
Thanks for all the great advice.
First I want to say that the title is a bit dramatic but I was extremely disturbed when I posted it and really panicking a lot.
My husband had never seen me in such a state.
Going to jail is one of my absolute fears of all. I have always been very impressed by all those cases where innocent people end up in jail (not saying I am innocent by the way).
My news may be disappointing for people here and I really hate to let you all down after such great advice.
I got paperwork ready but talking to my H, I decided to contact an accountant first (appointment next week) to have a look over my messy books and returns. So I will know exactly what my income is after all the deductions I should have made and never did.
Than I will contact a lawyer to represent me.
There is this guy on the internet who promises excellent results with people never having to be interviewed and no prison sentence.
Also, I have applied for the job and I am going through the selection process. It is not in the council but is for the council so hopefully it will be fine.
I just got really scared of coming forward without the aid of an accountant (I am self employed and never used one) and a solicitor.
Plus applying for the job and dealing with it at the same time didn't seem a good move.0 -

So rather than paying what got owe you're going to pay a solicitor to try and get you off? Classy!0
