Maybe it's paranoia and a good conspiracy theory combined?

  • so six months have gone by without a single prize off the max holding. time to cash in i think and put the money back in my savings account i would say. these premium bonds are starting to cost serious money.
  • For each £100 that a non-taxpayer has 'invested' in PBs they are GAMBLING 50p per month (based on a possible 6% return from the bank).

Basic rate taxpayers are GAMBLING 39p and higher rate taxpers are gambling 30p per month for each £100 held.

I have £500 and pay standard rate tax. Therefore, I gamble 1.95 each month. Won nothing.

    :)

But when you gamble and win it is worth it. If I didn't have them then I wouldn't have won over £11K this year!!

Well heres someone else to back up the 'you win on new bonds' theory.

5k holding, won £200 in the first 3 months. Thought 'well this is good'.

Haven't won a prize since. 7 months now without a prize. 5k holding.

To start with, won a prize each month. I'm not gonna re-invest, cus I can't be bothered and I'm not whinging, I'm just another person who's had that well known 'hyperthetical' trend.

Am thinking about removing 4k though and just leaving the 1k in for luck.

Well, probably not. The Government bit is more than likely just my paranoia, and possibly based on the fact that I have never met anyone who has won a large amount. Have you? Or for that matter, has anyone on these boards, met, or know of someone who has won big money? 25 grand or more? Anyone? It would be interesting to know for the sake of research:cool:

    Hi,

Just to ease your paranoia a notch, there was a poster on here a while ago (last year??) who won 100k on PB's. I can't find the thread - maybe lost during the recent problems. Of course, she may just have been a gov't stooge?

The above nothwitstanding, PB's remain a poor means of saving.

That's tough, lordgaino. Mine keep winning, no eye-watering sums just nice and regular. £2,300 in the last 6 months. Don't know what I'd do in your position.

I have £12,000 and seem to win about £200 a year - a lousy return. My sister in law has the same amount and gets a return of around 10-12%. It is rare that a month goes by when she doesn't win, usually £50 or £100 but it all adds up.

I can't decide what to do. It is the only bit of gambling I do as I don't do the lottery or any other form of betting. I am a bit scared of cashing them in as next month might be the month.
