i'm another christening present girl! Given one in 1970 to be halved between me and my Mum - never won anything.

Bought £3,000 worth last week so I'm going to see if I can change my luck!

OK, so my extraordinary - and highly suspicious - run of bad fortune continues.

It's now FOUR months since I've "won" anything, and I have a max holding.

According to the bond calculator, the odds of that happening are less than 1%.

Wohoo! I'm beating the odds! Just in the wrong direction.

No seriously, I don't think my bonds are being included in the draw. Regular wins up until April, then nothing.

Very suss, if you ask me.

It's not suss, it's just the luck of the draw! Let's say it's a 1% chance, that means for 100 people with the max holding, 1 won't win for 4 months, thousands and thousands of people have the max holding, so it's not that unlikely it'll happen every so often. If you go a year without winning anything, then I'd reconsider my options!

I've gone several months without wining anything, then have a regular run of £50s and this month 2 x £100s, whilst you aren't winning someone else is, and the opposite situation will occur!

And you've perfectly explained why premium bonds are a waste of time.

For someone to win someone else has to LOSE.

Sorry, but I'd prefer to "win" each month in a high interest account.

If that's your opinion then why have you a max holding in PBs?

If you have good other investments, then they are a good option in my personal opinion. As all the "wins" are tax free too. So a high rate tax payer usually does ok out of the system.

If you are after a guaranteed return, then obviously PBs aren't for you.

Mine have always performed ok, and this year so far have been very good, I've never won a massive amount so far, but there is always a chance of winning a significant sum, which there isn't in a bank account! They are part of my wider portfolio, I just put them away and forget about them, and enjoy the wins.

One assumes if you win £50K next month you'll think they are good, and if you win £50 you'll think they are bad!
It's a gamble (though you are only gambling your interest, never your lump sum investment). Far worse gambles on the stock market.

You pays your money you takes your choice!

Fair points. Our differing opinions of PBs are entirely coloured by our contrasting experiences. Sadly, my experience (albeit against all odds) is more typical of the vast majority.

Let's see if I can maintain my losing streak next month. And if I won £50, I'd be delighted!

If you go for 6 months without I win I'd be very surprised, if not I'll buy you a drink ;)

I imagine they are storing up the big win for you at Christmas!
