Yes, I agree again with JessicAhh. It is a good idea to write down your thoughts but maybe it would be better to keep them private at first. I know a few bloggers who say they have had to delete some quite nasty comments made below their blog entries. There are some nice people out there on the web who will sympathise with you but there are also some trolls who will be out to jeer and cause you upset so please be careful!

A few years back I joined some local groups. One was an art group and there was only about 10 of us in the group and we would meet make cards and other pieces of art. I loved it as I met some lovely friends and gained a sense of achievement when I took my creations home! We also shared ideas and arranged to meet up for walks too! Another group I joined was in fact a walking group and we would meet up weekly and have a walk either up the coast or in the countryside. It was lovely to enjoy the fresh air and have a chat, and often a coffee at the end of the walks! Good luck and let us know how you get on xxx BB

  • Hi!

I've had some success with Twitter wins (albeit not a lot compared to standard online entry/FB comps) but here are my "tips" or things I've learnt:

    1. If it's a RT & Follow comp, do the basic, then maybe send them another tweet with a funny/interesting line which links yourself to the prize or entry. I won a DVD the other day I'm certain because as well as retweeting, I mentioned in a reply that it was the first time I'd seen a film alone with Dad at the cinema since The Little Mermaid (the RT comp mentioned Grand Budapest Hotel) :D

    2. If you are interested in a particular prize, search "Win XXX" in the search-bar and all comps relating to that prize will come up (make sure you change the search to "All" rather than "Top", otherwise all the searches will come up for popular comps). You will see a lot of other people's entries, but keep scrolling and you'll soon see companies with comps too :D

As I live in London and love theatre, for example, I usually search "win London", "win theatre" and "win tickets" - some will be from other countries but Twitter tends to filter the UK based twitters so most should be from this country.

    3. I also follow Twitter accounts which are areas I am interested in and would love prizes from (theatre, arts, books, cinema) that I know also host fairly regular comps - Faber, Foyles, Waterstones, Theatre People, Odeon etc. So when I check my feed the comps are sometimes right in front of my nose (although this is obviously pretty random) :D

I've always hated those because I don't have a facebook so I don't do the facebook part, maybe I should make one and enter more rafflecopter ones then...

I don't always do the FB part to be honest, as it usually requires liking and sharing, which can land you a ban from Facebook.

I do the twitter follows and tweets, blog comments and Pinterest mostly.

Here's a handy guide on how to use a Rafflecopter

    Happy comping :)

I used to comp a LOT and did very nicely out of it but honestly with your anxiety levels I think you'd do better spending the time building a reputation (and money) as a Dooyoo reviewer. You wouldn't have to buy anything to review and it would also hone your writing skills if you are thinking of becoming a blogger.
There's a good Dooyoo thread on here -why not take a look-I think it might be better use of your time -and with a guaranteed "pay off".

I've never won a Twitter competition... So I gave up with them. I'll enter the odd one or two but still nothing.. I use my main Twitter account for it too. So I really don't think personalising your account or tweeting more will help. As a lot have said, it really does just come down to luck.

As for the blog. Errrm... Yes you could start one but that too can be similar to comping. Instead of worrying about not winning, you'll worry that you don't have many followers or pageviews.. I have a blog and its taken a lot of hard work and time to build up and I've only really felt happy with it recently. I agree with others and think you should work on looking after yourself and your mental health before jumping in to the virtual world. xx

I used to do a lot of comping but once I started to get frustrated that I was not winning I eased off on it. I'm still not winning but it's not taking over my life. Why don't you set yourself a time limit or limit the number of entries you make in a day and then walk away from it for a while to follow one of the suggestions above?

I think writing a blog is a great idea but I agree with the posters above about the risk of trolls and people who will make nasty comments just for kicks, especially if you show vulnerability. Just be prepared to deal with these if you are going to make your blog public as you don't want to cause yourself more anxiety.

Also, if you do start entering Facebook competitions, consider having separate personal and comping Facebook accounts to avoid spamming your friends. It's against Facebook policy but lots of people on here do it and would probably be willing to be your virtual friends for this purpose. Also avoid the competitions that rely on a public vote as 'Likes' can be bought online and someone who is willing to do this will almost always win, no matter how good your entry is.

I like doing competitions but i tend to just enter ones i want to win. I think it is mostly down to luck , the more you enter the higher the chance in most cases. Finding competitions less people have entered as well always help. I have entererd a few hundred over the years and only won a handful. And believe me my i am a very unlucky person. I would just do ones you really want to win.
I am unemployed myself :( and suffer from depression etc so it is good doing competitions for something to do. But i wouldn't get so worked up about it. Some people win loads , other just win a few. I tend to spend time everyday doing nectar surveys & other survey sites instead. I have recently joined a online community that's great , you get monthly incentives for doing projects etc. It is thanks to nectar i got into the group. Additionally far i have had toothpaste , 3 bottles of mixer drinks & tic tacs sent as samples through Nectar Surveys.

Maybe try to mix it up a bit? Twitter is easy - but that's why there are so many entrants, maybe? I'd try a few off-twitter comps see if your luck changes :0) x

I just want to say thanks for writing this thread, Crystal.

I have similar issues to you and atm am getting a bit too wrapped up in comping. It's not a problem but I'm definitely going to be less obsessed about keeping up with clearing the board. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter if I don't enter every of-interest comp.

It's really easy to link your self-worth to your win rate and is something I watch out for and recognise if it happens. Just be aware of it and if you're not feeling strong enough to be objective then it's probably time for a little break.

Thanks for the reality check - I was beginning to need one and hadn't really realised.

    Best of luck to you!
Thank you to everyone who posts on the competitions boards. You all rock!
