I think perhaps you are getting "too much into" comping. I always enjoy any win I have big or small, but it's not the be all and end all of my life. Just enter competitions for things you would like then just wait and see. I know how your situation can make even little things seem like major problems and the world is against you but it isn't. I'll probably get trouble for this but have you been referred to a cognative therapist?
I am awaiting therapy yes, have my first appointment next month.0 -
I haven't mentioned this on here before but I have a bad case of OCD among other things so if I feel a bit threatened by comping I take action and my son takes charge of my laptop. I know that sounds a bit drastic but comping can be a bit compulsive. Please don't let it get to you, I really enjoy comping, it's a good hobby if used on a level where you're not obsessed with winning.
OCD is one of my anxiety disorders and I too am getting quite compulsive with my comping. I think I'm getting too addicted because I just want to win something anything at this point.0 -
Crystal, I comp as a hobby and I don't view it as a form of income. So if I win I am thrilled but if I don't or have a dry spell then I don't let it get me down. I would tread carefully if you suffer from anxiety as I think you could become addicted or obsessed and you don't want to make yourself ill!:TA big thanks to all who post and sprinkling lucky dust to all who enter :smileyhea0

Thank you guys, you're all so nice.
I see what you mean I should try and find other things to do and try and remain positive. I don't want to get too obsessed with this.
I might start a blog, it sounds good. I enjoy writing/typing and it would help to improve those skills as well as my anxiety and may even help me to win competitions as I'd be willing to write reviews about anything I may win. I just don't know where to start though?
I was also thinking of changing my twitter profile so it stands out more. Like with bright colours and such.0 -
Crystal sweetheart slow down! You have just finished working for a reason so you don't need to start writing a blog now! What you should try to do is help yourself to feel well again by going for some lovely walks while the weather is nice - I walk my dog every morning along the beach where I live and I love to just listen to the waves and the gulls and lose myself in it all. Also why not join a group or club in your area - I am sure there will be groups for people with similar problems. Your doctor's surgery should have a list. I know ours does and I have seen groups advertised for people to meet up for a coffee and a chat, organised walking groups, art therapy classes, knitting groups etc. I'm sure there would be one that you might fancy and it would get you socialising in small groups. Then when you feel stronger and happier you can look into comping again?
Please be good to yourself and don't push yourself! I agree with JessicAHAH - she shares my view that there is more to life than comping and your health and wellbeing should be at the top of your priorities right now!

Thank you for your post Bluebella.
I agree with you but what's wrong with starting a blog? I thought it would be a good idea as it is similar to keeping a diary. I thought it would be beneficial to be able to practice talking about my thoughts and feelings which I have always found so hard to do.
But what you said about joining a club or class is a very good idea. I never thought of doing that. It would be good for me to be able to learn a new skill, get out of the house and get used to being around other people at the same time. Because being indoors all the time gets pretty lonely. So I'll definitely look into that!
I will still continue to enter competitions though but I wouldn't make it a priority to win and get frustrated if I don't. I'll do other things as well, like you said joining a club or class.0 -
Hi Crystal, I'm a newbie too.. Been doing this since Jan and have yet to win a bean despite putting serious effort into it.
I've seen people on here win comps. I have entered and I think it's fantastic that us real people can win, and we all have a chance from having a go. The wonderful people who post the comps are so kind sharing the fun and in turn, diluting the odds!
Like many on here, I have also suffered anxiety and panic attacks in the past.. I'm still on tablets but life is so much better now, and has been for many years. I totally understand what you are going through and wanted to let you know that with time, medication and cognitive therapy it really does get better.
Hope you can enjoy comping and not let it become too big an issue for you.. I only enter for comps I want to win so I guess it will be a long time before I experience the thrill of a win, but I enjoy the not knowing if and when and what I may win, and I'm watching TV whilst doing them so it's not a chore at all.
Have fun and I wish you a good recovery from your bad times and hope you get a win soon tooThanks to all who post here:beer:0 -
I think if you start a blog, you need to let yourself get lost in the writing of it, not obsessing about it being perfect, etc. You might like to use a site which has a setting where you can write the posts and keep them private: that way, you can decide whether to share them, or just use them as part of your own recovery (like a personal journal).
The best way to start might be to have a browse of Bloglovin' (https://www.bloglovin.com), and in the search box type 'anxiety'. This will bring up a list of blogs that people have written to help themselves through anxiety. I suggest you have a read of some of them, find one you like (and where the writer sounds like they're now in a more stable place), and drop the blogger an email. Many will be willing to share their thoughts with you about where to start, and how to manage a blog alongside your anxiety0
