Well, I switched. Just need that final bill.

And I have superseded their error! Though anyone looking at my energy will see that I've only used 1 unit of gas in 6 months, the automated system seems to think that's fine.

So today I got my final bill.

I owe them £350 roughly, so I'm in a good position to pay off my debts.

I have checked the bill in fine detail and it all looks good - exactly what I'd expect.

Unfortunately I cancelled the direct debit when I closed my account, so I'll have to pay them direct.

I have moved to flow energy and so far, all is good.

I'm in a similar position, Tim, I owe around £270 and have also cancelled my DD.

My contract finished on 31 Dec and their final bill overestimated the last few days usage which was on their 'Variable' tariff; I've emailed them and given them the actual readings on the day and got autoresponses, but not got any actual reply or new bill.

I guess, when they work out the DD didn't go through today, they'll be back in touch.

Lets hope they do before they slap a black mark on your credit file.

Or perhaps you may wish to consider pre-empting this possibility?

Edit: Also I would refer you to the terms you agreed to abide by
3.1 You agree to pay by Direct Debit every month. If you choose any other payment method there might be a price increase to reflect any charges reasonably incurred by us for doing so....

    and
3.1.e. If you do not pay our bills in the way we have agreed with you, we can ask you to pay by some other method, in which case there may be a price increase to reflect any charges reasonably incurred by us for doing so....

    as a couple of examples.

I left them over a year ago and received an email advising the outstanding debt of £143 needs to be paid. I phoned them and advised I did not owe them anything and I advised them they refunded me £90 from the final bill.

I still have access to my online account and now they said I am £478.00 in credit.

Well, I paid by monthly DD till the end of my contract, and sent them the correct readings ten days ago, so they have all the information they need.
  • After enjoying a good business rate for a year they wanted to re-new my contract with a 62% increase! I'm now moving elsewhere.

The same goes for any supplier.
When your contract is coming to an end, shop around.
    Loyalty doesn't pay nowadays.

Alternatively negotiate. Business is all about negotiation.

Not sure whether you got an absolutely stonking deal last time, or whether they don't want your custom anymore.
