I recently changed to Extra Energy for both Electric & Gas supplies, it was calculated to be a £37 per month direct debit payment.
Extra Energy took the first payment this week for £37 even though I provided them regularly with accurate readings. I thought that the direct debit monthly bill would be adjusted if readings were provided? It's the first time I have used monthly direct debit so I am not sure if it works this way.
Even though the payment was taken there is no sign of a bill with my online account, therefore I have no idea of what the estimated meter readings that were used for this bill. If Extra Energy fail to produce monthly bills it is going to be a nightmare to work out the accuracy of all of these direct debit payments.0 -
The comparison site comes up as £417 savings for me with Extra Energy.
I am keen to switch but I am getting worried with all the comments out here.0 -
Then let's hope that in mid-August we are still not discussing the missing interactive services.
Anyone want to open a book on it or better still a sweepstake?
Can I have second week in October?
Just phoned them and now they are saying early September. What I do not understand is why they did not have everything up and running before launching themselves on the public.
I am no fan of Ovo but I could not fault them on their online facilities.0 -
I was thinking that to be fair it would be a good idea to offer the customer service reps at ExtraEnergy a chance to enter the sweepstake and before anyone shouts unfair, I reckon they are just as much in the dark as we are.
So, it's Abbie for third week in December and me for second week in October.
Come on Mable, what week and month do you want (and anyone else who wants to join in)?
Briliant idea of a sweepstake I,m not a gambling woman. Also it would be very helpful if the EE rep on this site could let us know they are still alive and kicking and give us updates.0 -
From ExtraEnergy's FAQ:
http://www.extraenergy.com/home/faq/your-account
Can I view my bill online?
The ability to view your bill or statement will be available on the 'My extraenergy' online portal soon. Rest assured all bills and statements will be sent to you via email or post when they are generated.
In the interim has anyone actually been getting bills by email or post, either on request or automatically, including for direct debits where a payment schedule would still be expected?0 -
Jazzy, the reason I signed up for "payment on bill" rather than DD was to allow me to hold onto my money rather than ExtraEnergy take what they feel is an appropriate amount to cover a years estimated usage based on the previous 12 months consumption.
So far I have held onto my money for almost a month since submitting my first quarters meter reading and the longer it's in my pocket rather than theirs the happier I am.:j
They rely on regular DDs to the keep cash flow in accordance with their business plan, so the last thing they want is for lots of other customers going onto my plan where they get paid after they've consumed the energy.0 -
Is it worth signing up?
Yes, despite the negativity on here I would still sign up as they are one of the most competitive energy suppliers in the market and making big savings isn't to be sniffed at.
They will get their act together eventually (I hope) and even if they don't and they go belly up, you will be safe in the knowledge that you have been getting your energy at a very good rate and that's all that matters.
The only concern I would have would be if I were paying by DD and had built up a lot of credit which may be difficult to get back if the receivers ever move in.
However, there are a lot of safeguards in place to ensure customers money is safe and ring fenced if they were to fail and waiting to get your dosh back would just be an inconvenience.
So go for it, sign up and join the rest of us on bumpy ride!0 -
Switch date on Monday for me - about 5 weeks after I moved into new house. Got notification from current supplier - British Gas - about the switch date but the email from EE didn't actually specify the date - just said "in a few days" so could be clearer there.
Their rates are ~£250 cheaper than the big players so deffo worth the switch.
Granted, their online account tool isn't great at the moment but give them time - I'm sure it will be.
Now all they need to do is offer smart meters *hint hint*0 -

May I ask a question in respect of "smart meters".
Apart from downloading meter readings automatically and by doing so removing the expense of having meter readers calling to check that we are not supplying duff readings ourselves, I can see no other benefits to having one installed.
OK they may be handy for those who don't understand how to take a reading or calculate their consumption or have the common sense to know when they are using to much energy but I suspect the majority of energy consumers are clued up enough to be able to do these things without the need to be mollycoddled by the latest technology.
Could it be that the clued up members of society are being lumped in with the rest of the "no brainers" that seem to be taking over the world, because that's easier than trying to educate the "knuckle draggers"!
Of course I'm taking it for granted that "no brainers" and "knuckle draggers" don't frequent this forum.:)0
