Jazzy, the reason I signed up for "payment on bill" rather than DD was to allow me to hold onto my money rather than ExtraEnergy
I have received extra information from Extra Energy, the billing is reviewed every 6 months and reassessed if necessary, so I cannot see the point of providing monthly meter readings if this is the case. Just needs an actual meter reading every 6 months.
I am still unhappy with the lack of monthly bills with estimated monthly meter readings, hopefully this will get sorted out soon with the promised improvements for online billing facilities..0 -
I thought that the option of "payment on bill" worked out to be more expensive than through direct debit?
Quite correct jazzy but I'm prepared to forgo the DD discount to keep control of my money and pay as I go or in the case of ExtraEnergy, pay weeks later.:rotfl:
To me it's also a matter of principle, as years ago paying by DD was not a problem and they only took what you owed but then the big energy companies realised they could improve their cash flow by introducing payment schemes that spread the cost of 12 months consumption and everyone thought that was very good and helped consumers to balance their monthly budget.
Then slowly but surely the energy companies started offering discounts for DD payment but tied into their rules that meant you had no choice and those that wanted to pay only for what they consumed were effectively discriminated against as DD payments weren't an option.
The bottom line is that the energy companies introduced the "new and improved" DD payment scheme to improve cash flow and nothing else.
They could easily take my money by DD each month/quarter for what I owe based on actual meter readings regularly supplied by me but choose not to and now have to pay a premium to pay them by online bank transfer.
Principles don't come cheap but neither it seems does freedom of choice!:sad:0 -
Yes, despite the negativity on here I would still sign up as they are one of the most competitive energy suppliers in the market and making big savings isn't to be sniffed at.
They will get their act together eventually (I hope) and even if they don't and they go belly up, you will be safe in the knowledge that you have been getting your energy at a very good rate and that's all that matters.
The only concern I would have would be if I were paying by DD and had built up a lot of credit which may be difficult to get back if the receivers ever move in.
However, there are a lot of safeguards in place to ensure customers money is safe and ring fenced if they were to fail and waiting to get your dosh back would just be an inconvenience.
So go for it, sign up and join the rest of us on bumpy ride!0 -
The comparison site comes up as £417 savings for me with Extra Energy.
I am keen to switch but I am getting worried with all the comments out here.
DONT trust the "Savings amount" Even though you enter you current tariff price virtually All comparisons sites then calculate any saving on "a Standard" price which will be no where near what you are currently paying.
My comparisons said you will save around £150 a year but on my Actual current tariff my savings were more like £30 a year0 -
Personally I much prefer to pay DD & slightly over pay & let them hold onto my money as when winter comes, there will be some credit so I dont have to worry about putting the heating on longer.0

I know that but when I looked at the tariff comparison the electricity charges are lower compared to my current provider and my electricity bills are almost double my gas bills. So I am hoping to save some money here..0 -
I was thinking of signing my parents up to extraenergy though the savings are smaller in their case than some quoted here at around £50/year.
Does anyone know if the Santander 123 account now pays cash-back on their direct debits? (I gather the Santander calculator isn't up to date)
Thanks

Still no sign of my bill despite numerous emails flying back and forth between myself and the ExtraEnergy senior manager I have been dealing with for 3 months.
This is now becoming very tiresome and although I would usually be happy to hang on the my money for as long as possible, this farce has got to end soon if they are going to keep my patronage at the end of the contract period.0
