I've missed the big news, pn. Is this a house or a flat?

Have the curtain poles already been taken down?

    House.
Still up; EA just rang so I shot the question across the bows of "... really want to take them...?" so he's checking.

I've no idea what value people put on curtain poles..... but if it's less than I perceive the hassle to cost to source/get fitted my own then I'd pay it .... but if they're "aspirational lifestyle branded" ones then they can take them if they want silly money.

I wonder which NP's ever spent the most on one pole.....?

To me they cost whatever Argos sell them for when you set the results to "price: low to high" and check the top one.... seems to be about £20.

    No posh window dressings here...

My curtain poles are from Argos or Dunelm Mill, my blinds are from Ikea and my curtains are from the Next sale. The Next sale is surprisingly good for household stuff providing you don't mind getting up at 5am to stand in a queue and you have one with a big home dept. It's not something I'd do often, but it's good for setting up a new home.

Never been in any Next store... it wouldn't enter my head to step through the door.

I googled it, nearest "Home Only" is 8 miles away.... no idea if it's "a big home dept" or not though. On the map info on their site, half the departments have a X beside them, so it's probably not a big one. I've always wished shops would put the floorspace on their store information, so that if you're planning a visit to one and could go in any direction, you could choose the biggest one.

We queried whether our sellers were taking curtain poles and roller blinds. We knew they were going into rented for at least a few years, so couldn't see the point of them taking them down. They were adamant that they needed them, unless we wanted to pay £££. So we told them we weren't buying them, but were happy for them to be left. They replied that they would definitely be taking them with. They stayed in place.

I think a lot of these choices come from either circumstances (going on a world trip in a camper van).... or age/experience. My seller is youngish, so probably just thinks it's customary to strip the place bare..... or feeling some strange attachment to them.

Maybe somebody older, possibly the person given the job of taking them down, will point out that it's daft and not usually done.

Didn't lir say a couple of hundred posts back that she would be without proper internet for a bit? Maybe that's it.

    Really hope so.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)

Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

I've actually broken down, and bought my personal domain (i.e. the domain for my actual name), done the nameserve thingie to redirect it to my host and installed wordpress on it and chosen a theme.

( Nope, because it contains my name no one's going to get to see it. Sorry:D )

Didn't think I'd ever do that... it's a bit 'ego' isn't it? But I think I now need it for professional reasons.

I also did an hours scything, plus deadheading in the garden.
