Cool, overcast and "flat" here today. Even the birds aren't bothering to cheep.

That's OK, it's not today ... it's in about 4 weeks' time. I'll pencil you in for that then :)

Rooney did the rubbish Rooney thing of trying to be all over the pitch. He shouldn't be making lung bursting runs out of defence, he should be waiting for Gerard to pass the ball to him.

Beckham in his prime was brilliant at covering the pitch. But Rooney isn't Beckham. I'd say at his best Rooney is a good England player, whereas Becks was good enough to make a world XI. He's just a different type of player. I agree, he should know his place.

It's a shame Lennon wasn't in the squad. I think last night's game would have suited him (if he's in form, which I don't know).

PN, my top tip is to invest in some 'thorn resistant' gardening gloves. They look like they've been dipped in rubber (which may well actually be the case). They are only resistant, not thorn proof, but makes dealing with thorny things and thistles a whole lot easier.

    And weedkiller.

I'm no expert, but I've clocked up a fair few hours of weeding experience. If you wanted, I'd try and come over.

I have a pair of those too and they are by far the best gloves for attacking thorns and brambles that are reasonably priced.

Beckham was a midfielder and very fit. Rooney is a striker who apparently smokes and certainly seems not to look after himself as well as he could.

I like Lenon. He's not really been given enough of a chance with England imho. It's good for Spurs that he gets the summer off though.

Cheers - I'll look for gloves. It's not a big enough area for anybody to travel more than 3 miles realistically :)

We went to Manford's comedy club in Brum last night. It was super fun and great value for money. They put the football on directly after the gig for us to watch. When most people were leaving we thought our luck was in and we would get a better view in relative quiet, but the bar upstairs let all the morons in whi had been chanting (audibly) for some time. Security were holding them back while they removed a lot of chairs, it was awful, very sinister, with everyone wearing football kits, draped in flags and pushing hard against security and shouting and swearing. Apparantly two fights had already broken out on the stairs. I demanded that a security guard take us up the fire escape to get out - we'd never have survived going against the tide! They had plenty of fire escapes but being in a basement with that lot would have been my worst nightmare.

Made it home after kick off but enjoyed watching it without people who support the same team trying to kill each other. I only watch these tournaments because everyone does but the game was entertaining and I thought England played admirably. I was surprised by the sportmanship shown by the two Italians who helped Sterling stretch out his cramp. I didn't think that existed in football.
