My personal belief is that drugs should be legalized, and then taxed, based upon the simple fact that for all the policing and legal work anyone who wants to get high can buy drugs without any trouble at all.

If after decades of drugs laws anyone who wants drugs can get them, it stands to reason the policy isn't working.

Happy (British) Fathers Day to any dads on here today. I know that's Gen, but also Zag and anyone else who happens to be around.

I don't know about things like crack cocaine. They are way too dangerous.

OTOH, the government are making khat illegal, which strikes me as utterly pointless as whenever they do studies, it repeatedly comes out as the least harmful.

Interesting point. Hadn't thought about that.

It's all a bit nuts to be honest.

You can map out 'what if' scenarios all day and night, you can take an objective view of the risks and balance of probabilities, but on the day it's quite possible that emotion will play as big a part as reason in deciding Scotland's future.

    Which is a tad worrying.

    There's Mother's Day, Father's Day ... Valentine's Day for lovers/people to date..... what about a Spinster's Day?

People should buy them presents for not overpopulating the planet :)

Based on the evidence, the middle classes should be discouraged from coming home and slurping down a bottle of wine, and encouraged to take LSD, Ecstasy and Mushrooms instead. :)

Might lead to a much happier society.

    Worrying times.

Whisky sales will drop off if exporting becomes a trickier set of paperwork... they'll have to drop the price and drink more of it themselves.

But as a proportion of users the reverse may be true.

The study was published in the Lancet. Might be worth a dig to see if there's any more details.

Where's the harm to others in cannabis? That you force feed them chocolate when you've got the munchies? I'm sure it's from smoke, but that struck me as quite high.
