Agree that reducing the monthly minimum repayments gives more flexibility in view of an unknown future. You don't have to guesstimate, though - Martin has calculators for that kind of thing. My heart would love to actually see the term of my mortgage creeping down, but my head says that reducing the minimum payments makes much more sense for after my fix finishes/ if I ended up with a reduced income for whatever reason. So I just guesstimate how much I might be taking off the term.
It's things like this which make me pleased to be a lonely old spinster
Spinster, yes legally that's what you are.
Lonely, if you say you are.
Old? :rotfl:PasturesNew wrote: »Once I buy my house, I'll have 0 mortgage payments
So will I in about a month's time, I hope. I am promised my money within 14 days of the hearing on 23rd June.

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Who Do You Think You Are (Yesterday channel, started at 9pm) looks interesting. One of the Easterders' characters ... story so far (to first commercial break) is his mother never knew her parents.
Mother, 17, father 24, married a few months before she was born. Split up a few months later, mother paid for baby to be fostered (cost her 10shillings/week) but then she couldn't afford to pay and authorities wanted to adopt baby.
Wedding certificate says father wasa fairground worker, with current address on the corner of two roads in London.
The actor's mother remembers her mother visiting her once and giving her a silver bangle that she still has .... and nothing was ever heard of again from the mother or the father.
He's now off to the fairgrounds ... "well known family" they're saying of the father's name.0 -
I would like to get back in the pool. But I think I need to achieve some improvement in my mental health first.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? It does prey on my mind a little that the service would be an option, but prices are very high .... and then you wonder if they're any good. Yours is the first report I've heard of somebody having it done and if it's that good then it's worth doing once in bad cases, if only to get a good start on it from scratch.I know it's very decadent of me, and a posh alert and all that, but my plan now is to wait until it's really bad and then get the same thing done again. The hob gets done weekly by the cleaner, so I rarely have to clean cooking appliances at all.

My sibling's got the worst oven cavity ever. One of those slapdash/messy people that doesn't think things matter.... and food's been in there a lot and a lot of grease has splattered over the years (brand new house/oven 4 years ago) - and it scares me as it smells like it'll catch fire. There's a sheet on the bottom of the oven, that's also caked... and every time I go there I think "I really want to give that a good going over....." but I could only do it if I took the gear with me .... and I'd have to present it as a fait accompli to avoid the ear-bashing for "interfering".
That's another reason I plan to trial Oven Pride... if that does as good as job as the OS lot say, then that's the perfect beast to take with me on my next housesitting expedition
My parents used to have some one in to do theirs, It was always done well.
I just don't see the need. Its possible to do. Maybe I will....but I, er......would probably want to clean it first :rotfl:0 -
I would like to get back in the pool. But I think I need to achieve some improvement in my mental health first.
If I were to even try and find the pool, I would need to work on my mental health first too.
Hope things go to plan over the next month or so, Lydia. Will be so good for you for that particular process to be finalised.0 -
I don't think I ever found the pool.... I think I was in deep open water as I only found sharks.0

I saw some people in Tesco on Sunday who bought more bananas than I'd ever seen anyone buy. Probably a good 60 or 70. I found myself staring and wondering what they would do with that many bananas, given how quickly they go off.
So to anyone in the queue at Tescos buying a truckload of bananas, I must apologise for staring at you. However if you do it again, I will have to ask what you need them all for.
I don't like bananas. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

I do think that talent is a bit thin on the ground PN. But it does depend what you are looking for and as you said, if you are looking at all.
Over the years, my 'essential's have diminished. Used to be they had to have long hair, ride a motorbike and preferably be in a band, or at least hang around with a band or a bike gang.
Nowadays, if I were looking, I would be happy with a level of intelligence with an understanding of British politics, so I could have a conversation on an evening.
Compromise is the name of the game. As we get older, we are less willing to compromise, when it should be the time we are more willing to do so.
A friend, on reentering the pool, said that you have to adjust the requirements list from "own hair" to "own teeth"!I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
