NP mode off: You could always see if they are interested in a spot of gazumping and a cash buyer..you would still be quids in.
On the other hand it may be that your proposed house is meant to be the one.0 -
I am thinking of the fish. More precisely what fish I am going to buy at village fishmonger. The stall is open 12-3pm on Thursdays. I am off there about midday.
Flat white delicate? Robust and meaty? Thick and firm and white? Smoked (I always get some smoked haddock). Shellfish..I love scallops, OH has had a bad scallop experience whilst away, so maybe too soon to bring them into the house, King prawns or mussels...I like mussels but knowing they are alive when you start the cooking process puts me off.
Having thought about it..I am no further forward and may just end up choosing what I like the look of. I want three meals worth.. tonight for me, dinner for OH and I tomorrow or sat, and something for the freezer for in the week.
I eat a lot of oysters these days when I go to England as I'm yet to find good oysters in Aus.
Sea Bream are great value as a rule and are amazing roasted or grilled with thyme in the cavity.
Jamie Oliver does a great shish kebab of monkfish with large croutons wrapped in bacon/ham. Thai monkfish curry is awesome and dead easy: red curry paste with chillies, coriander, lemon grass, Kaffir lime leaves/lime juice/lemon juice, onion, garlic, coconut milk and fish.
Shame about scallops for your OH. I'd be inclined to eat his share too. Stir fried with bacon, onion, ginger, garlic, veggies and a tiny sprinkle of sugar is fantastic.
With fish it depends on which is most recently deceased IMHO.
One of my old uni flat mates made a cracking kedgeree from smoked haddock. He'd poach it in milk. Yum.
I love moules marinieres. It's the only way to eat the beggurs IMHO. With home made thin chips and beer on the side and some bread to mop up the juice. Perhaps a little cream in the sauce too or made with cider rather than white wine. Nom nom nom.0 -
Of course we've all heard of Soylent Green through the Charlton Heston movie. The Next Big Thing Story is that a bunch of geeks were trying to design the next Facebook/Google/eBay/Amazon. They couldn't afford food or the time to prepare it and eat it so invented a food substitute they called Soylent Green (don't watch if you haven't seen the film).

But expect them to be either in short supply, or pricier.
e.g. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/environment/10844357/Mussels-and-oysters-under-threat-from-pollution.htmlMussels could soon be off the menu in British restaurants because flooding and the wet weather have brought too much pollution to shellfish farms, banning them from collecting harvests.
High concentrations of E.coli have led to a ban on mussel farming in parts of Cornwall this week, after the Food Standards Agency downgraded the water quality of two sites in the River Fal, as well as nine other sites across the country.
Industry experts believe the entire shellfish industry could be under threat. They said farms growing oysters and mussels are likely to disappear from Britain’s estuaries in future as wet weather continues to wash more sewage into waterways, destroying the water quality and making them impossible to farm.0 -

I have managed to get Josh reading fiction! Even better, he actually likes the book I thought would do it...
It's 1984 by George Orwell, a book I read in 1984 and which left a huge impression on me.
Well done on getting him into reading and what a book to start with:TI was horrible to my boss..and did not control my temper..it could be my plumbing that is cursed.
It is quite a good curse though, inflicts inconvenience and possibly expense without real harm.
Sounds proportionate.
Though it may lose it a bit when you have to explain that it's domestic and not biological as in 'A CURSE ON YOUR PLUMBING' *flounce out of room. Stick head back round door*. 'Er, that's domestic, not you know, lady things....':rotfl:Of course we've all heard of Soylent Green through the Charlton Heston movie. Trouble is for those of us who struggle with food, it actually doesn't look that bad. I did three months on Lighter Life which was meal replacement and after the first four days, I was probably the happiest I'd ever been around eating, as it took food out of the equation.0 -

I loathe oysters. Only tried once in steak and oyster pie..never wanted to try again.
No sign of sea bream today.
Smoked Haddock - will make kedgeree with some inspired by above and will use another fillet along with an unsmoked fillet of Haddock to make fish pies for the freezer (I am the only one who eats fish pie - I poach the fish in milk , a mix of white and smoked, and make a parsley sauce then form the milky stock).
I bought a good sized sea bass and had them fillet it, so that is what OH and I will have.0 -
