Well I know they're very big on CSR, and one or two of my lecturers seem to think that it's somehow prominent in the teaching (it really isn't). Which I'm not too fussed about. I'm quite cynical about it really, I think the companies that do it for genuinely altruistic reasons are few and far between.

They like finance and accounting as well. Of which there is virtually nil on the courses we did. The idea is that HR people should be able to justify their decisions on a business basis and not just to be nice. So if you spend £x on training your staff, what will the productivity increase be? No idea how they reckon you're supposed to work that one out, maybe I should ask them :D

Then I guess more obvious stuff about zero-hours contracts etc. There's very little practical stuff like that.

I definitely have opinions about these things.

Sometimes there are direct key performance indicators that change.

For example more qualified/skilled people = more billable hours at a higher rate/higher margin in professional services

Fewer rejects/quality issues = less waste (may be measurable) reduced complaints and therefore less complaints handling

Better compliance gives better risk management reduced regulatory threats/ insurance .

Increased motivation, retention , succession planning and (yuk) talent management.

    Tell me about it.............

Just dealt with a call with the old 'we don't find often someone that can give 8 years' senior PR experience, yet is young, energetic and has radical ideas'

Then they try to haggle down on the day rate :rotfl:

Whilst I'm able to work around 1000 hours a year charging what I usually charge, my rate will not go down at all unless people start to become unwilling to pay it. I'm still turning a lot of work down, so could probably go upwards and still get the 1000 hours!

Got in a panic when I read this and had to go and check when Mother's Day was.

Always forgetting that until it's almost too late!
I guess I mislead when I said "the other morning" - it was over 6 weeks ago now :)

    My how time flies!

I had an entire conversation in a small shop the other morning, not wishing to look like a shop lifter

That doesn't work. It just makes you look like a shoplifter who's distracting the shop assistant while their accomplice dodgy steve is nicking the batteries...

Most shop assistants couldn't care less anyway. They get paid the same whatever you nick :)

I saw this last week and have twice now resisted the urge to say 'just these please'. Disproportionately pleased with myself :o

Happens all the time with my customers and I now find myself saying it when out and about :o

One of my assistant managers is so prejudice, anyone who fits in with the prejudices is kept an eye on (Trackies, non English, look poor etc etc) She also spends half the day on the town security radio listening for potential issues and exaggerating them. :o

Luckily she's not in when I go in later today :)

Client asked me to design two bathrooms for them. I've been allowed to be creative. Bathroom 1 is nearly finished. It looks fricking amazing!

If I say so myself :o. I'll show it off next week :)

Following on from Masomnia's comment re football stickers, nearly saw someone go into full Britishness meltdown today.

They bought the Daily Mail, but really wanted the free Lego toy, but didn't want to ask for it. Couldn't say "oh just this please", because they wanted the toy, but didn't admit to it. You could almost see the cogs working. Standing in line can be fun sometimes. Thankfully the store assistant stepped in "would you like the free toy sir"? "oh, yes please, what a nice surprise"..

Well I just had a very nice meetup with a nice person. :)

    Thoroughly enjoyable.
