Just wanted to say thanks to all the NPs who've been extra N tonight
I've just sent off the application, and I definitely wouldn't have done it if you hadn't all got behind me. The odds are firmly stacked against me but I feel like I've achieved something in just applying!
I'm feeling a bit better about things generally. So it's fallen apart with the girl and I've got no real friends here, but I need to use that to spur me on a bit, need to focus on myself. If I think things are bad now, when my course finishes completely in September and I've got to sign on it'll get much, much worse. So I've got to get cracking!“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse0 -
Might be an idea to look at the CIPD website to see what the 'issues of the day' are.0

Well I know they're very big on CSR, and one or two of my lecturers seem to think that it's somehow prominent in the teaching (it really isn't). Which I'm not too fussed about. I'm quite cynical about it really, I think the companies that do it for genuinely altruistic reasons are few and far between.
They like finance and accounting as well. Of which there is virtually nil on the courses we did. The idea is that HR people should be able to justify their decisions on a business basis and not just to be nice. So if you spend £x on training your staff, what will the productivity increase be? No idea how they reckon you're supposed to work that one out, maybe I should ask them
Then I guess more obvious stuff about zero-hours contracts etc. There's very little practical stuff like that.
I definitely have opinions about these things.“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse0 -
Do people in Georgia and Oz have these worries that Brits have?
No to most of these.
No.11; in a country with what I'd estimate to be around 60% unemployment, you need to show everything you have.
No.19; I use wink 99% of the time when I am being sarcastic.
No.25 is pretty much irrelevant, as there are mainly markets. I refuse to use Georgian supermarkets, as the cost of most things is over 50% more than man + van + market stall.
No.27; there's always alcohol in my home, and that's the way it probably always will be.
No.28; Its usually just 'madlobt' (thanks) on the first one, and nothing after.💙💛 💔0 -
It is nice thread. You did it very beautifully.0

Welcome
[NP mode off]
Whoever's driven into OH's car, then left a note on it saying she can't park, why did you not leave your details?

Luckily it's a mirror casing (the mirror still works) and a scrape on the protection pads on the door by something of a similar height, rather than needing 2 doors replaced......Will photograph later, as I'm not sure from the angle/damage how they've done it.....
Best get on the phone to Skoda as well today!💙💛 💔0 -

I especially like number 3, it's very much me. Even if I want something something else
'Just these please...... and some of these football stickers, thanks. Yes I am a grown man.'
I saw this last week and have twice now resisted the urge to say 'just these please'. Disproportionately pleased with myselfEverything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Being able to measure success seems to go to the heart of what HR should do but doesn't.
There's no need to learn accountancy to do it. You have a finance department to do finance. The trick, IMHO, is to define success up front and then see if it's been done.0 -

I even now know the time the lady comes in to put the hot pies counter on and starts selling the fresh pastry items (and have NO interest in them whatsoever) .... it's tough "just looking" without looking like a shoplifter.
I'd only gone in to post mum's Mother's Day card at the Post Office counter they had in the corner.... and then didn't want to look like I wasn't using the shop, but simply dropping off a letter and would never use the shop ever again.
And I'd only gone to the counter, rather than using the box outside as I was scared that the postman might "skimp" and not empty the box and/or had already emptied the box so using the PO would make the difference between it going that pick-up or the one in 5 hours' time.
Got in a panic when I read this and had to go and check when Mother's Day was.
Always forgetting that until it's almost too late!
Good to see posters we've missed popping back. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0
