DH is burned I'm not,
Been and odd day, Been very busy, but got little done.
Lydia, should you want a dog for a day kiwi might be on offer. Little fruit is going under the garden fence to the farm. DH , kiwi and dog dog walked up the big hill this morning while old dog and I drove up and pottered about waiting for them. Dog dog thought it was lovely but it was a bit much for her dodgy back legs, the hill, but kiwi ( who we hoped it would tire out a little...a new walk) was raring to go ALL day.
Lydia I have realised I forgot to send you brandade recipe. I'll dig it out this evening, I just need a rest off my pins for a bit.0 -

We buy quite a lot from ebay.
(I've got a bit of a watch habit.)
Seems to be getting harder and harder to get good deals though.
Lost out on a Cartier necklace (again) that I've been trying to get as a pressie for Mrs McT for over a decade.....
This is only the third or fourth time I've seen one come up, probably should have just gone for it but my inner moneysaver couldn't press the button once it got above 2K. There's another one on now at just over that on a buy it now, so might put in an offer and see.
Did get her a pair of CL shoes she's been drooling over, unworn NIB and sold out in all the stores, but I paid dearly for the privilege.
It ain't like it used to be.

No hurry for the recipe, lir. Whenever's convenient will be much appreciated.
We would love to borrow Kiwi for the day, but have our doubts as to the practicalities. The dog we borrowed today lives next door, so the logistics are somewhat easier, and all the more so since there's a fence down at the moment.
Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. (Link permitted by forum team)
Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Do you worry about being sold a fake?
Nope.
I try to focus on just a few high end brands that I know pretty well, and can spot most fakes.
For necklaces, etc, most of what I'd buy is too rare/unusual to be commonly faked, or at least not with any quality. For watches, there are a lot of good fakes out there, but dealing with high positive feedback sellers helps. And for any watch or jewellery I always get them checked out after delivery at my local friendly jewellers. I'm also pretty pedantic about only buying goods with original box/papers/certificates, which again are hard to fake well, and only from high feedback sellers.
For shoes, clothes, etc, then when in doubt there's a few online resources for fake spotting, the CL forum is particularly helpful for authenticating shoes for example.
And at the end of the day there's the ebay resolution system which to be fair to them is pretty heavily weighted in favour of buyers.
I've not had a fake yet.... And have bought many dozens of high value items on ebay.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

Don't know if you saw last week's Antiques Roadshow, Hamish, but there was a bit on there about spotting fake watches. May be worth catching on iPlayer. You probably know a lot of it already mind. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Far fewer bargains about I think. Though I did get a good price on fly traps, one was limited to purchasing three

Just found out Britain's Got Talent was on - and I'd missed the first hour, so watching it on ITV+1 where it's just starting ... gotta love modern stuff like Freeview

On the fake spotting front, for example.....
This Cartier Le Baiser Du Dragon pendant is almost certainly original....
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CARTIER-18k-Gold-Le-Baiser-Du-Dragon-Ruby-Pendant-Cord-Necklace-/171309084074?pt=UK_Jewellery_Watches_FineJewellery_CA&hash=item27e2d12daa
The wear on the close up photo's of the pendant and cord is consistent with the age of the item, the Cartier markings are in the right places, the rubies are the right shade for the ones Cartier were using in that line, the price is about right, etc.
This one on the other hand makes me a little more nervous.....
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cartier-18K-White-Gold-Diamonds-Dragon-Motif-Pendant-Necklace-Top-Charm-14878-/231203361280?pt=US_Fine_Necklaces_Pendants&hash=item35d4cb5200
It's too cheap for what it is, the diamond versions are running over 5K in most cases nowadays... it's too shiny, and there's no box or paperwork, which seems incongruous given the near mint condition of the item.
It's either a scorching deal or a very good and expensive fake.
I'd probably still risk it, given ebay's dispute process and the fact I have a Cartier authorised dealer a mile away from the house, but I'd say it's probably got a 1 in 3 chance of being fake.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

Looks a bit battered to me ... shoddy finish. Not "finished" and/or just dented/battered.
Other one's finish was a much higher standard. That one's just "wrong" and awkward.
My total lifetime spend on all jewellery ... gold, silver, diamonds, platinum .... the proper stuff .... adds up to about £100
