I try to buy clothes that don't need ironing - and I dry things on a hanger and tug at them. Anything that's then wearable can be worn; anything not goes to the back of the cupboard...if you (a) tumble it briefly, (b) hang it thereafter and (c) apply less than stringent standards of smoothness to the result.
I've not actually got an iron or an ironing board - they're on the list though for when I get a house as there's a lot of clothes that've now been packed in vacuum bags since 2009 and 2011 and some that've just been shoved in boxes since 2007.... and the rest has been randomly shoved onto shelves or kept in suitcases for the last 2 years. I expect to get the whole lot out and go through it, which will involve some ironing. I've never been good at it though - I tend to get no discernible difference after I've finished.... total spend will be under £20 though getting the iron/board, so it's worth a shot to finally have clothes that fit and are decent enough to be seen out of the house in.0 -

It'd probably end up like that after a couple of hours of wear if I were doing the sewing.neverdespairgirl wrote: »The first image I found is this one, which I imagine is Not Suitable.....

I seem to remember some NP offering to help me next time DD needed fancy dress. Well... her class will be taking assembly on the Friday morning just before half term (ie the Friday before the bank holiday at the end of May) on something to do with Greek myths. She has been cast as Aphrodite.
Suggestions anyone? Please?
I think NDG has this sussed? If things change ( like that baby puts in an appearance) yell!HAMISH_MCTAVISH wrote: »That is the one thing I am blessed with, in my 40's now and still have way better than average vision. I can still read to the bottom line of the eye chart in my medicals, and then switch to focusing up close instantly without any blurring.
Have noticed a bit of deterioration in night vision adjustment though, have to be much more careful with not glancing at oncoming headlights in the car, and keeping the instrument lights dimmed in the cockpit, etc.
OK, to be fair, there's 2 things.... Hair is going grey, but at least I still have most of it......
Everything else is ageing at a normal pace, sadly....:o
I have great eyesight apart from when it goes. I go to eye clinic and read all those lines of letters no problem, pass the visual field tests ( to their annoyance as that's where I should show problems but consistently tell them I have no peripheral vision loss, only holes right in the middle of my visual field leaving only peripheral vision when it happens.
. But when its normal its excellent.
Similarly, hearing, I have the hearing of a bat ( probably partly why I am misophonic) but sometimes my ears just....drop out of the loop significantly.0 -

Lydia, could there be something she already owns that could be worn and accessorised?
I'd be thinking somewhere a little along the lines of mermaid, seeing that being naked isn't really an option, even if it is cheap and easy! I would associate scallop shells and the sea heavily with Aphrodite, from Boticelli's painting. I thought she was born from sea foam, but I've just read it may have been the foam from Uranus' testicals being hacked. So, erm, this is a great choice to be given!
I'd go to the big supermarket and have Coquilles St Jacques for tea and glue the scallop shells onto a supermarket bought bikini top worm over a neutral coloured top. Sea coloured or just a flowing skirt, with some ripped up blue/green material pinned on.
Hair, if it is long, romantic with some small plaits or shiny accessories, something with pearls or bridesmaid type stuff from Claires. Or my favourite accessory, a wig, because my kids always feel dressed up in a wig.
I don't mind shopping for the outfits, it's quite fun together. The local high street here has plenty of charity shops for a skirt or whatever, much more fun than sewing something for hours amd ignoring everyone.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Chilly and cloudy here. And wet and windy. The temperature rather begrudgingly struggled up to about 15C and is now quickly heading down to the wrong side of 10C. Houses here aren't built for cooler temperatures as generally they have the insulating properties of a tent.
Oh well. I had a really nice day today. The Boy had soccer this morning and The Girl had a birthday party that we hadn't factored in to the plan. As a result I chucked The Girl into the little car and drove her up to the city. When I dropped her off at the party it dawned on me: I had 2 hours of no accountability. I didn't do anything much really: I had a mooch around some bike shops and had a late breakfast. It was very nice though although I've spent the rest of the day feeling very sleepy as a result!0 -

Sounds nice, Generali

DD is going shopping and for lunch with SIL for her birthday present. Doozer mentioned a walk along the canal and maybe even some lunch, which I will hold him to. We should go earlier rather than later as that pub will get packed today.
We're going to see a house with a friend of a friend at 3pm. I spotted it new on RM on Thursday, very near to an overpriced house that they had already seen, this one I think has the potential for a very cheap fix for an uplift in value. They want to stay there, and it will help that too. She saw it and made an offer yesterday. There is another offer on the table, we think the same as hers as it is just above the lower SDLT threshold.
They are having more viewings today and I think there is a hint of best and finals about it, although I'd say that the asking price was fair, I think prices may have jumped for the first time in over 10 years - way before the recession. Best and finals were pretty unheard of around here unless it was a wreck. I've seen things sell quickly before, but SOLD signs are going up before the FOR SALE ones. Things falling through quickly, as I guess some rash decisions are being made.
All as I sit with scaffolding wrapped around my house for the last four months. Perhaps tomorrow we will order some paving.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
