I our house that would be got a double bed to replace a single so we could hve a bigger pile of waiting to be ironed clothes...

Same here. Well, they'd be waiting to be sorted according to whose room they need putting away in. Almost nothing here actually needs ironing if you (a) tumble it briefly, (b) hang it thereafter and (c) apply less than stringent standards of smoothness to the result. :D

Indeed - can't remember the last time I had the iron out ... don't wear cotton clothes or things which have to be ironed, as a general rule :)

The spare bed, instead, has piles of paperwork on it which have been sorted out but not yet put away (bank statements, pay slips, council tax documents etc etc). Far neater than scattered across the lounge carpet :D

You probably receive a printable ticket via email or a code number to hand in at the box office either before or at the performance. It'll be worth it. I've been to a few plays and never regretted it.

When I've booked online at my local theatre, I didn't get a receipt or anything to hand in - just gave my name at the box office when arriving at the theatre for the performance. Now I come to think of it, that's a bit of a risk that someone else might collect them but obviously it doesn't happen much or they'd have a different system

I'm at the booking page and at first it looks like it's asking for a delivery address, but down the bottom is the 'collect' option, which is unchangeable, probably as it's tomorrow :o

Next - what do people wear - smart casual? Should it be shirt and trousers for me, or a casual shirt and smart jeans?

    Sorry :o

There's no dress code. There'll be more people wearing trousers than jeans but nobody'll judge you. Mind you, I tend to cover myself in sticky glue and jump through my wardrobe so I'm probably not trustworthy on matters of dress-sense. :(

Went to a TV show last week and the dress code was "wear dark" so you wouldn't stand out.

Files info away...although actually of no use too me, even before being married I never did no strings and never would (and no PN not just because no one would have me).

I'm not entirely sure whether you mean by "no strings" on-going but casual, or one-night and never see again?

Although being self employed presumably you can earn profit rather than income, avoid NI and pay your spouse to do the 'admin'. Plus the 49k is pretty similar to what I earn PAYE with none of those advantages although I admit I generally do fewer than 40 hours/week and only about 2 hours a day travelling.

You can't avoid NI, you have to pay it. And OH and me paying each other to do our admin wouldn't make much sense!

My tax affairs are entirely Kosher, it's not worth the risk not to be.
    Apologies for misreads :).

When DH got moved to Brussels his trips home which we thought would be fairly deductible were not. That was one hell of a normal commute cost. :(

I can find out criminal solicitor costs....would be an interesting comparison.

Not your mis-reads, my mis-writes, I think. Criminal solicitor costs would certainly be interesting.

But there will still be many smaller solicitor firms which do not survive; the chances are that big, factory-style firms with less qualified or experienced personnel will sweep in to the field - and thus provide a less tailored and detailed service to their clients.

When you combine that with cuts of 25% to the prosecution's overall budget, the risks of miscarriages of justice appear higher all the time.

Some very good High Street firms that I know well professionally have given up both immigration and criminal legal aid contracts over the past few years, because it just wasn't worth the grief.

In other news, I too am now feeling elderly: I have ordered my first pair of varifocals.

This has hit me harder than turning 30 (40 was OK as I'd just bought my house in that year) and also harder than my younger brother turning 40. I thought I'd get to my mid-late 40s before this was needed but it's crept up on me more quickly than I was ready for. Silly, I know :(

I will also have to replace my oven (one that in built in under a hob) at some point in the not too distant future. All ovens on the market now need a cavity depth of 55cm. My cavity depth is 56cm - but there's a gas pipe going up to the gas hob, which reduces the cavity to 53.5 cm. So the pipe will need to be moved. Cost £50-100??

I've had to wear glasses for driving since I was in my early 20s, so I suppose varifocals will follow once I reach needing-glasses-for-reading age. Not that long to go!

Does it matter if the oven sticks out a bit?

    glasses

That is the one thing I am blessed with, in my 40's now and still have way better than average vision. I can still read to the bottom line of the eye chart in my medicals, and then switch to focusing up close instantly without any blurring.

Have noticed a bit of deterioration in night vision adjustment though, have to be much more careful with not glancing at oncoming headlights in the car, and keeping the instrument lights dimmed in the cockpit, etc.

OK, to be fair, there's 2 things.... Hair is going grey, but at least I still have most of it...... :D

Everything else is ageing at a normal pace, sadly....:o

That was all "I", "I", "I" .... might I suggest that if you don't use the oven for much, you just get a combination oven and leave it at that?

I wouldn't have an oven if I designed a kitchen from scratch..... a toaster oven, or combination oven's more than adequate for most people who use the term "I" all the time.

Well, I have friends that drop round.... "You sit there and talk to me so I don't get bored while I tidy the kitchen." .... just the faintest possibility that they may have been fooled into thinking it had only just got that bad and I was just in the process of beginning to sort it out when they arrived. ;)
I don't get dressed most days.... no need. Nobody's coming round. So if anybody dropped by unannounced I'd pull on the two nearest clothing items just to answer the door ..... I'd give off the general impression that I'd just dragged myself out of bed and hadn't tidied for at least a month ..... because I probably haven't :)

Got a bit of a backlog right now - it's mostly unopened post, leaflets that get put into the postbox, opened post - and, at the moment, stuff like paperwork to prove I am who I say I am. All unceremoniously dumped around the room as I bring them in from outside - and tossed close to the hole-punch, so it almost looks like I'll be punching/filing them.

Then there's the dirty washing pile .... clothes are just in a pile on the floor because the washing machine's only 4' from where I drop them and I can't put them near that or I'll trip over them when at the kitchen end of the room :)
