Parking tickets...
I almost own our village square. You can park for free for 30 mins if you get a ticket. I prefer to get fined £25 quite frequently. sometimes forgetfulness, sometimes a sort of parking ticket roulette which is in comprehensible in someone as anti gambling as I am.
I got fined a huge amount for dropping Mrs Generali outside the station over here, almost £200! Who knew that no stopping meant no stopping? Crazy place Australia.0 -
Generali - how come they fined you so much? For that price you could have go a limo to deliver her!
LiR - hope everything goes well.“The ideas of debtor and creditor as to what constitutes a good time never coincide.”

Agree with both bits- definitely hopefully from me too, and definitely not a fraud. You have dealt with an uncertain (even less certain than is usually managed) diagnosis in a logical and reasoned way I could only dream of. Obviously I hope that I am in good health for as long as possible, but should I ever be faced with anything similar to any of you guys, I hope I am even a fraction as brave, resilient and good humoured about it.

I'm getting a bit anxious about childbirth, which is feeble in comparison.
Agree that viva, lir and Gen are seriously impressive. Don't agree at all that being anxious about childbirth is feeble. Childbirth is scary because even if you've done it before, you don't know exactly how it's going to go. Yes, of course it's all fine most of the time, and easily sorted by a decent hospital almost all the rest of the time. But it's still unpredictable, and you are allowed to be anxious.I agree. If you are going to have an epidural you may as well have it as early as possible.
Don't read all the horror stories on the net. Follow my lead - have an epidural too early, need to be told when you are having contractions and have a pain free delivery!
Epidurals are magic. I had one with DS (who was spine to spine and therefore took ages). The delivery was not only painless but calm, peaceful and delightful. I got on brilliantly with the midwives, and it was a very positive experience.
Positive birth experiences come in many varieties, but I think they all involve getting on well with the midwives, so at risk of being boringly repetitive, I shall say what I have said before on this thread: if you find yourself with a midwife with whom you don't get on, do not put up with it but send OH to ask for a different one for you.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

It's what it costs if you get caught stopping in the no stopping zone. Fixed penalty.

Have you anybody who could get it for you via http://www.software4students.co.uk/? We mentioned them several threads back.
I'm still trying to recall which company supplies bargain-basement computers for those who need to get an entry-level one. Got an idea it was near the north-east.There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
Decided to do a driveby of the house, so set out at 6.30am with all my recycling too. It seems there's a parking issue and two cars were parked on the main road double yellows/half on the pavement - and when I peeked in the gap that leads to the car park there was a car parked in the entranceway.... didn't have the b4lls to park up and walk into the car park to see what happens in there - might have to make that a 5am walkout .... don't want to be seen/acting oddly.
Parking spot conveyed with the house is a good position, but only one. I'm not as bothered by this as one would think though as, in general, parking won't ever be an issue and who the heck will be visiting me anyway! Overnight parking is allowed on the road for evening/weekend visitors and there is a handy shop car park just 100 yards away that allows 2 hours .... so, within 200 yards there's a lot of alternatives.
Then it was onto the recycling - I'd been keeping some things "in case" but really never had the space/inclination to use those here.... e.g. 8 empty glass coffee jars, 4 empty 4-litre milk bottles, 5 empty margarine tubs ... all handy things "in case" if you've space/inclination to use them. Ideal shed fodder.... so they're now cleared out.
Then it was off to the beach. Parked up in the car park (supposedly open from 9am, but could get in OK).... didn't pay of course as there's no "little man" and no cameras. Stepped out and had a cig for 10 minutes ....
Then back home to investigate parking charges. Car parks are £1.40 for 1 hour, so I wanted to know how much would it cost to park at all the places I might wish to be at. It turns out to be just shy of £300/year. So call it £6/week. I'll probably get an annual pass as that's the full parking permit and would cover me for all the places I could ever wish to pop to for shopping, beaches - and the potential watersport I intend to pursue and volunteering I'm considering signing up for (RNLI).
Living the dream..... lol.0 -
Re childbirth ... I'm not buying it either. It's probably the first thing that put me off the idea of having kids .... how something that big .... could emerge from somewhere so small ... not buying it.
Get thee gone Satan and your strange ideas....0 -

The benefits board on here probably comes closest.
There's some idiot who's been banned who keeps posting fictitious situations where they have been denied benefits for some reason and then brags about how stupid they all are to fall for it. Mental.
The whole cancer thing has been getting me down today. I thought the pain from the op was going to be temporary, maybe 6 months or something. I found out yesterday that it's permanent, most of it anyway. It's all a little bit too much today.
I woke up at about 4:30 this morning which probably didn't help. I went for a kip in the library and tried to understand an article in the New Scientist about quantum physics and paired electrons.
It turns out I am only human. Gutted.0
