The whole cancer thing has been getting me down today. I thought the pain from the op was going to be temporary, maybe 6 months or something. I found out yesterday that it's permanent, most of it anyway. It's all a little bit too much today.
I woke up at about 4:30 this morning which probably didn't help. I went for a kip in the library and tried to understand an article in the New Scientist about quantum physics and paired electrons.
It turns out I am only human. Gutted.
I've done many jobs where I've been visiting housebound people, very ill, terminally ill etc. What has never ceased to amaze me is the intelligence & the desire & willingness to overcome barriers.
So much so, that the most common answer people have given me to certain questions, is that they don't have a problem (because they've found a way around it).:)It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -

Arranged for him to leave it with Dad's name on at a specific station.
Anyone would think my Dad doesn't want a mobile. He leaves it all over the place, regularly. Taxi, last month.
How heartwarming to have such encounters. There are good people out there. It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0 -
LIR just want to say that your post on pain is a cracking post!:TIt's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0

Gas man not shown up yet. These 2 days off work were as it is school hold but also because I had booked builder to find roof and gas man. Builder said earlier in week he would be no show so if gas man also doesn't come then it will be a double failI think....0

PN, your entire posting style has changed. You seem so much more purposeful, happier and less stuck than you have for ages.
Looking forward to hearing all about your new volunteering and new watersport, as well as your new income streams, once you've moved into your own place.Do you know anyone who's bereaved? Point them to https://www.AtaLoss.org which does for bereavement support what MSE does for financial services, providing links to support organisations relevant to the circumstances of the loss & the local area. Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.0 -

Selling pens and stickers to the public at open days.
That sort of thing. Land-based, waterside, with a good loo and comfy chair close by. Certainly not signing up for the call outs at 3am when there's a storm force 10 blowing and a ship's going down ..... having to pull on bright orange clothes and brave the weather.

Thanks LIR that's really helpful and quite encouraging.
I'm used to dealing with pain: "cycling is suffering" and all that. This is a bit different though.
I'm starting to get a horrible feeling that alcohol makes the pain much worse. I've read that can be the case with lymphoma occasionally. Oh well. I drink too much anyway and quitting would be better for my cycling too.0 -
