PasturesNew wrote: »Decided to do a driveby of the house, so set out at 6.30am with all my recycling too. It seems there's a parking issue and two cars were parked on the main road double yellows/half on the pavement - and when I peeked in the gap that leads to the car park there was a car parked in the entranceway.... didn't have the b4lls to park up and walk into the car park to see what happens in there - might have to make that a 5am walkout .... don't want to be seen/acting oddly.
Parking spot conveyed with the house is a good position, but only one. I'm not as bothered by this as one would think though as, in general, parking won't ever be an issue and who the heck will be visiting me anyway! Overnight parking is allowed on the road for evening/weekend visitors and there is a handy shop car park just 100 yards away that allows 2 hours .... so, within 200 yards there's a lot of alternatives.
Then it was onto the recycling - I'd been keeping some things "in case" but really never had the space/inclination to use those here.... e.g. 8 empty glass coffee jars, 4 empty 4-litre milk bottles, 5 empty margarine tubs ... all handy things "in case" if you've space/inclination to use them. Ideal shed fodder.... so they're now cleared out.
Then it was off to the beach. Parked up in the car park (supposedly open from 9am, but could get in OK).... didn't pay of course as there's no "little man" and no cameras. Stepped out and had a cig for 10 minutes ....
Then back home to investigate parking charges. Car parks are £1.40 for 1 hour, so I wanted to know how much would it cost to park at all the places I might wish to be at. It turns out to be just shy of £300/year. So call it £6/week. I'll probably get an annual pass as that's the full parking permit and would cover me for all the places I could ever wish to pop to for shopping, beaches - and the potential watersport I intend to pursue and volunteering I'm considering signing up for (RNLI).
Living the dream..... lol.
RNLI would be great pastures.
It does sound like its coming together.
Even here I get parking issues occasionally....people parking in my drive or a gateway to go for a walk or cycle, for example.
( I became a nutter woman who left notes on cars explaining it was private land and if people needed to park there could they enquire at the house if it were convenient. I'm actually not opposed to people parking here itself, just blocking gates and randomly helping themselves and setting a precedent that treats ours as right not something we'd grant as didn't inconvenience us.0 -
I thought the pain from the op was going to be temporary, maybe 6 months or something. I found out yesterday that it's permanent, most of it anyway. It's all a little bit too much today.
Or .... more likely, that new drugs will come out that work on it.
Don't forget the benefits of this pain - you can now Google for bizarre stuff to try to get rid of it - and chew up hours of your time Googling for chinese needles and ordering the dried dust from the scrotum of rhinos to see if that works0 -

Knowing your place, if I were driving along I'd automatically assume that all the area were private for the house/farm and I'd expect to get the car totalled by a huge combine harvester/similar if I dared park there.
When I was waiting for you, knowing I was at your house, I parked on the road until you came home - I didn't dare park in what's your drive/entrance etc as that all looked private and I didn't know all that bit was yours too. I don't take chances in case some angry person waves their arms at me....0 -
The benefits board on here probably comes closest.
There's some idiot who's been banned who keeps posting fictitious situations where they have been denied benefits for some reason and then brags about how stupid they all are to fall for it. Mental.
The whole cancer thing has been getting me down today. I thought the pain from the op was going to be temporary, maybe 6 months or something. I found out yesterday that it's permanent, most of it anyway. It's all a little bit too much today.
I woke up at about 4:30 this morning which probably didn't help. I went for a kip in the library and tried to understand an article in the New Scientist about quantum physics and paired electrons.
It turns out I am only human. Gutted.
Ok, I'm quite well equipped to talk about chronic pain and I think I might be able to
Be helpful here.
here is the thing. You do adjust and you do get used to it so that the same pain doesn't hurt so much IYSWIM.
At points where it gets you down or if you are needing to medicate if you are not familiar with it you will become familiar with the grades of pain thing. ( one to ten).
To put this in context One of the pains I suffer is called trigeminal neuralgia. Its nick name is the suicide pain. Some women give up wearing make up etc, To avoid angering or aggravating the pain, ( I guess men might stop shaving, tbh, if have no idea) But honestly, you find ways to cope. I've even been told at times I 'cannot have it' because not only am I made up but I wear earrings. I point out earrings can be removed if pain levels alter ( I probably wouldn't wear dangly earrings all day then all evening, but I can usually stand an evening contentedly. My car and bags are littered with earrings when I have decided I made a wrong call, or its a good time to take them out.
But you see, the pain is NOT so bad I'm not prepared to keep trying:D. Like high heel shoes, or the restriction of a collar and tie, or the burn of a good workout or fighting through when you hit a wall?
The thing about chronic pain is you not tend to notice the good days unless you work hard to. They don't stand out, its easy to get lost in a forest of 'higher grade days' or hours.
Once you have found methods to work with yourself to be ok with the pain it WILL get better! your tolerance WILL make it feel decreased.
You have an advantage, as I feel I had at the beginning, in your fitness regime. Unlike many you must have a certain tolerance for 'discomfort'. ( I didn't think that was what those years of various training were for but it turns out they are BRILLIANT) and you hopefully have found a pain relief now that will give you some reprieve when you need it even if you choose not to use it heavily. Its good to know its there for 'key dates'.
I used to find mindfulness/meditation very useful ( I cannot concentrate for long enough now , nothing to do with pain) and a sanguine attitude of accepting this too is an experience of life.
If you note the pain is lesser at times enjoy it but try not to 'explore the sensation' with your mind......its easy to find pain that way!
( edit, my TGN is not bad today at all, about 'a one' but I have one of my other favourites playing up, a sensation that I call 'cast thighs' which slows me down more. On the plus side its very much less a crazy making sensation. Anything round head or neck feels uncomfortably close to the centre of 'oneself' and thinking. Tension might aggravate it. Nerve healing can also be a little uncomfortable I find. but its pretty short lived incidents, but might occur in short bursts while the trauma heals and occasionally afterwards. Identifying the 'sensations' and what else is going on with you ( physical or emotional tension, bay period of work/training, or whatever) I find helps be determine what is my best plan of action at each time.
If I think of anything else or if you think I might be able to help with anything from experience PLeASE ask. Its so rare my experience might be useful!:rotfl:0 -

Lol, I don't get angry. I tend to go out and ask ' hello! Can I help you?' If the people are there, and leave a note if they are not. If it turns out they are feed reps for my neighbours etc I direct them unless the neighbours are nearer my place than theirs when I say, 'yeah, fine, leave car here and look, there they are...for future reference its round the corner, but no problem today.'

I'm still trying to recall which company supplies bargain-basement computers for those who need to get an entry-level one. Got an idea it was near the north-east.

Just had a phone call to which I replied cheerfully, "Hi Dad!" and ended up speaking to some kind man (sounded about the same age as me....) who had found my Dad's phone on a train and was ringing the last number in the call history.
Arranged for him to leave it with Dad's name on at a specific station.
Anyone would think my Dad doesn't want a mobile. He leaves it all over the place, regularly. Taxi, last month....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
It'd blimmin' hurt getting it out! That's just a myth spread by wimmin to get sympathy :eek:It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.0

Volunteering is great. I got so much job satisfaction from my volunteering jobs. Way more than any paid work I've hadPasturesNew wrote: »Mumsnot .... an online collection of fishwives on benefits with all day at their disposal to gob off online (except the 1 hour when Jeremy Kyle is on and they have to watch that to see their friends/ex/family).
People who would mostly not recognise an hour's productive work, never mind the concept of a full-time job
I suspect their demographic matches exactly with Chat and Take a Break readers ... and Crack Wh0res Monthly.
