Ikea problem - what do you suggest?

Ah, in that case I apologise dangeroussports.
I was too quick to jump to the defensive. I'm very aware of our limitations and I don't like others making me feel worse by commenting on our buying habits (although I accept that wasn't what you were doing). I expect I'm too touchy on that subject.
Sorry.0 -
Hi Zebidee
I have read this whole post with much interest and I hope you get it sorted out. The bottom line is Ikea is in the wrong and they have to sort it out. You should not be out of pocket for their error.
I personally love Ikea "furniture" and have loads of it.
I have laughed at some of the comments on here but I hope they have not upset you - some people are just plain weird and need to take a chill pill!I used to have a life............................... before MSE!!

Thanks curlylox. I too have taken a chill pill and am now mellow and don't care who comments about my Ikea furniture OR how far I went for it.
Anyway, Ikea update:
I've had £10 refunded. He said he could put it through as a 'damaged item' discount. He offered a £10 store voucher at first but I said that was no use to me.
That will at least cover the cost of buying a bit of wood the same colour to put supports in.
Slightly annoyed that the hassle I've had and the phone calls I've had to make haven't counted for much. The person from the store who phoned me wasn't even a manager and he tells me he doesn't know why I was told a manager would call as that's not how it happens. He also said that the hassle I had was with the call centre people and not his store so they're not responsible for that.
I see his point and when all this first started, all I wanted was not to be out of pocket financially so the £10 does sort that out.
But tbh, after the hassle I've had this week, I'm royally annoyed now and I think he could have gone a little further with a goodwill gesture of some sort.
Anyway, it's done now. It was getting to the stage where I wished I hadn't bothered complaining at all!
Thanks for all your replies.0 -
Glad you got it sorted out. If it was not as described you had a right to complain.
My Spanish house is furnished entirely from IKEA and we have had no trouble with any of it. We have a cheap sofa that is eight years old and a set of bunk beds which cost £49 which we have cut in half to make twin beds. No trouble with anything.
So I wish the people who make jibes about cheap furniture would keep their opinions to themselves. We don't all want to have to take out a mortgage to furnish our home. However, even if it is cheap, it should still 'do as it says on the tin'.
Once again OP, I'm glad you got it sorted.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
OMG just read the whole thread and like yourself we are miles and miles away from an Ikea.....they don't even deliver here yet if you order online!! I like their stuff and hopefully be able to order soon.
Glad you got it sorted.....you are sooooo patient!!!!You may walk and you may run
You leave your footprints all around the sun
And every time the storm and the soul wars come
You just keep on walking0 -
But some of us cannot afford to buy solid wood furniture! I am sure that if we could afford it, we would all shop at uber expensive high quality shops, but I for one cannot.
Furthermore, while some products from Ikea are of low quality, some are not. I have a bookcase that I bought six years ago, that is still going strong, and still attracts many compliments.
Comments like 'IKea 'furniture'...lol....' are of no help to anyone.
If you have nothing constructive to say, then don't post.
I agree! Ikea is hit and miss. I have the Majiker bookcases with the TV stand and it's fab! No problems at all! But I got a (cheap) sofa, and the holes where you put the leg wasn't even built correctly on on corner. We got a slipcover to put over it and it doesn't fit (it was made for the sofa) and ripped all the time. We gave it away because we bought a new sofa recently. We also have a desk from Ikea, but I think we'll replace that when finds allow. It's cheap, but does the job for now. There's nothing wrong with shopping at Ikea, although I do feel like a sheep sometimes.0
