Ikea problem - what do you suggest?

On the couple of occasions when I have returned stuff to IKEA they have paid a milage allowance of petrol - but only when I asked for it, they only took about 10 minutes to get authorisation from the manager, if you phone in advance explaining your dillema you may not even have to wait that long. Good luck I hope the staff at your Ikea are as helpful as the ones in the Glasgow store, they are allright. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

We are members of Which Legal. Its about £10.00 a quarter and we use it loads. I think that under the terms of the 1979 sale of goods act to consumers they are in breach of contract for selling goods that are not fit for purpose. That is not your fault. I think that you can demand that they come up with a satisfactory solution to the problem which is either reimburse your costs for travelling or arrange a courier to pick up the TV bench and credit your card with the amount. I would strongly recommend joining which legal. We have certainly had our money's worth over the years. If you need any more advice just let me know and I'll try and be a bit more specific.
Incidentally which came into their own when we had a huge row with IKEA over kitchen worktops. It took months to sort out.
Good luck with it all0 -
I am another who has had a good experience of Ikea Customer Service - an Item I bought had a part missing which was posted to me - but it does take a while to speak to a manager when it is busy (the sale is on at the moment). I would phone again and get a firm commitment for a return call - explain that you have already not received a promised call - because when you do get to speak to a manager I am 90% certain that you will be able to sort this out to your satisfction.0

Also alot of companies will offer legal cover for around half that cost.Check to see that you get £50-£75k of legal cover as some will offer just £25K usually around £20
Read the small print. Some you won't have to pay the excess (like Barclays).0 -

Go away dangeroussports, you are just acting like a troll.Gone ... or have I?0

Do you think so?
Im merely stating that if you put two bits of chipboard glued together and cover it plastic then you shouldnt grumble when the 'furniture' isnt up to scratch.
Granted the OP's issue isnt with the 'furniture' but more to do with the incorrect labeling of the weight it can hold but surely you get what you pay for? If the same item had been built with solid wood then there wouldnt be an issue!0 -
But some of us cannot afford to buy solid wood furniture! I am sure that if we could afford it, we would all shop at uber expensive high quality shops, but I for one cannot.
Furthermore, while some products from Ikea are of low quality, some are not. I have a bookcase that I bought six years ago, that is still going strong, and still attracts many compliments.
Comments like 'IKea 'furniture'...lol....' are of no help to anyone.
If you have nothing constructive to say, then don't post.Gone ... or have I?0 -
What about charity shops? they have alot of furniture to sell or the fridayad.
A lick of varnish / paint and voila job done! everyones a winner
It boils down to taste.0 -
My apolagies to the OP, I wasnt trying to be offensive with my post, in no way do I critisize the distance involved in your purchase, nor that you shop at Ikea. As far as I was aware, the manual had the weight max capacity, if I am wrong in that, I apoligise, but I would agree with what some of the posts would say, that it will be strong enough to handle the job, if that worries you, strenghen it with a couple of wooden strutts, its not rocket science. Besides, if you get a full refund, and still get to keep the product, I cant see a problem. If you dont want it, or its in the way, sell it!!!:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A
