    Don't panic!

If you have account number/sort code then the account is fully open, so it will get there.

Timing depends on the sending bank as much as receiving - for me payments from Halifax/Lloyds to TSB are instant, payments from First Direct are near-instant, but Smile/Co-op take about an hour and Santander held my first payment until next day; this seems to be standard Santander behaviour for payments to new payees, i've had it happen elsewhere too

That's not quite correct. In my case an account number was reserved for me and was displayed at the end of the application and in the confirmation email along with the sort code for the branch I selected but the account was not opened until I provided proof of identity.

I sent two faster payments for £1 from Santander to my new TSB accounts on Thursday. They appeared instantly. Followed up with two large payments, got a warning text message from Santander. Santander debited my account instantly, but the money didn't reach TSB until Friday.

Santander do have the annoying habit to hold up larger payments to a new payee. They are still within the law if the payment reaches the recipient by the end of the next business day, but we are all used to pretty instant payments now. I wish Santander could get themselves on par with other banks on this issue (they claim they are more secure, better than other banks blah blah but this is nonsense).

I had this with Santander to TSB last week. The payment didn't reach TSB until the following afternoon.

Although I was sure I had input the correct account number and sort code, as I had copy and pasted, I was still doubting myself when it didn't arrive for so long.

I don't have a problem with santander. It's always instant even with new payees. Wonder why mine is different?

Maybe you've never attempted a payment above Santander's trigger level?

Well I did the £2000 to each of my tsb accounts recently and last year made a payment of around £50,000 to my wife's halifax account for our house purchase, although this was an account i had paid to before.

Think I know the answer to this question, but just want to double check.

Opened two accounts and funded with £2000 each. Stopped paper statements, set up standing orders for £500 between the two.

Funded on 22nd April with the £2k's.

Interest as I've just logged in is £2.15 per account - is this because it was part way through the month?

    Thanks in advance.

Santander are particularly twitchy about small 'test' payments to new payees followed by a larger (not necessarily very large ;)) payment.

It happened to me on Friday with a 'test' payment of £10 to TSB (needing the OTP to my mobile), followed by £1990 once the £10 had arrived.

Shortly after making the larger payment, I had the automated Fraud Dept call on my landline. Having successfully passed all the security checks, I was told they were satisfied I had made the payments, but that they might still have cancelled them

The larger payment arrived within about an hour, but I did think it ridiculous that even when satisfied with the authenticity of the payments, there was still the possibility they might cancel them.
