Yes, cream off the £8 odd that you'll get each month and put it in a 4% regular saver account. At the end of 12 months, assuming you pay no tax whatsoever, you'll make a profit on the interest of £2.15, before tax.
For anyone on basic rate tax, this would be about £1.38 as you need to calculate it on both this account and the regular saver.
I know this is MSE, but is it really worth it?
Well, you probably spent longer typing that post than it will take me to transfer out £8 each month, so I'd probably say transferring out the interest is more beneficial than posting here!
Though I do know what you mean: the gain is not large, which begs the question of what's the point. The answer is that it's not onerous to do at all, and ardent savers will dislike any money, regardless of how small the amount, that isn't earning interest.0 -
I opened a second TSB, it made me choose a new username, but the account appeared under the username I chose when opening the first account.0

just done so, thanks0

But at least way are not doing this every month until a better account comes along
and lets not forget the basic rate tax on that £8 for most people here.

No, but if you ask the bank, they can try0 -
I just created an account, however i'm getting an error when starting a new application to create a second account.
Also when i attempt to login to my first account i'm getting an error stating "You have entered the incorrect password/user id"
Is it just occuring as my account is still being set up or should i be able to log in instantly?

I don't understand why you need to cream off anything? You have to pay in £500 a month so just pay in £500 and withdraw £508. Zero extra effort required...0 -
well 2 accounts now up and running in under a week just waiting for card to come for 2nd account, both funded with 2k thank you tsb.
my first recived card is a contactless one too0 -
and for the 2nd account, I log out of online banking, go back to home page, select current account, apply then down the page there is a link for a addional account, I used this, had 2nd account up and running in 5 mins, no need for a activation code for this 2nd account, and the accounts were linked automatically under the one log in id, both accounts show instantly when I re logged in0
