I haven't got a job but a 4 week paid trial and if the trial goes well, it will be a permanent position :jshe says she does this with all her staff. I was thinking it was my joke which might have impressed her but it wasn't, she said i come across as a lovely young lad and what impressed her most was when i was leaving the shop, i stood back and held the door open for an elderly lady coming in. I just do that naturally, the old "after you my love ladies first" she liked seeing that as she says not many young lads nowadays do that.

I'm now getting really nervous because its my first job in 2 years and its crossing my mind that i wont fit in and the other staff might not like me. I really want to impress because its £7.20 an hour, 40 hours a week and that is more than enough for me to get back on track. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh i cant believe it!
    Nice one..

Scuffer, just in...[my usual refrain when coming in and checking posts.]

This is just WONDERFUL news and goes with the other[of which you are aware].

When do you start? I don't think I've missed this, have I?

Dang it - I so wanted you to be back here with a Which Job should I Take? conundrum.

We KNOW you'll manage and manage well. What a chance! - and in times like these, too.

So very well done you - and very well done that perceptive manageress.

Thanks to Mum too, for not scuppering your reference. Little steps, as we keep saying, but this has qualified as a BIG.

You'll make a success of this fabulous chance - thanks to Auntie for spotting it and I can pop off to NZ for 6 weeks knowing All's Well in Scufferdom. You'll cope with staffroom politics, should they arise, bearing in mind that at the end of these 4 weeks, Mgrss has to look at the dynamic of the whole ship. You can always make lunchtime your own, with book, if this seems the way to go.

No more updating us till silly clocks though. The working man needs his sleep.
Will you be on your bike? Take care.
Definitely time for a p/c to Mum and Dad. Give it a try? Ditto budget plan.

Scuffer, this is a champagne moment! You have indeed fallen down 51 times, got up 52.

So please for you scuffer. And don't worry about fitting in, as you can see from your thread, you charm all of us, so can't see how it wouldn't be the same in real life. Just don't relax and make sure you continue with the efforts. Be absolutely certain not to do anything silly not meaning to do it as you've been given your chance now, you need to honour it, but I'm sure you've gathered that and will do brilliant.
Thanks :) I'll give it all i've got and do my best not to mess up, its been along time since i worked but knowing what i'm leaving behind should drive me forward.

I'm starting tomorrow morning 9am but i'll show up at 08.45am just to make sure she knows i'm eager to work there and i do have to ride the 3 gear sharabang, but its only like 5.5 miles to get there and i'm in pretty good shape so should take about 15 minutes. I could still make it 2 jobs though i feel i need to be 100% dedicated to this trial to make sure i land the job at the end. I did text mum this afternoon thanking her, but no reply. I would have liked a reply wishing me luck, its not to be on this occasion so i'll just have to settle for the reference :)

Ahh Scuffer, you can't even believe how happy this news has made me! I am so pleased for you. You have done so well to get to this point, a trial period! Enjoy the moment, stop panicking about people not liking you. Just look through this thread and see how many people have been rooting for you after such a short period of time. I can't see why you would struggle with your new work colleagues. Be yourself, you come across as having a lovely personality and it shines through.

Keep us posted. And congratulations on your success!
