If its any consolation, I have blown the odd interview by uttering a bad joke. I am generally a happy-go-lucky sort of person who is naturally funny without really trying (or so I am told) - so I often crack jokes or say one liners without really thinking. Great for building relationships - not quite so good for interviews. Having said that - if I was interviewing someone and they had come up with your joke, I would have given them a bonus point! lol

Good luck with the Debenhams job. That sounds rather encouraging :)
Isn't the OP the one with a criminal conviction for drug dealing? Not that funny I say.

Depends on your sense of humour I suppose. And, as the OP has shown remorse for his actions, I think we can move on a tad and concentrate on his job seeking activities.

Anyway. All in all, I actually think jokes at interview are a bad idea (going from personal experience!).

There's nothing wrong with making a joke at an interview, the problem is not everyone has the same sense of humour and some might not see the funny side - you have to be careful.

I've got several convictions for drugs on my CRB/DBS (25+years ago) and wouldn't dream of making a joke like that (or joke about any other conviction)- unless the CRB had already been revealed and discussed.

I think any hopes of getting that job ended there and then.

If i'm wrong,,, well done :D

Such good news about your mum and the reference.

I appreciate you don't want to get too excited just yet, but it's a small smile you can keep to yourself and not share with anyone, to give you a tenuous link back to your family.

I am happy for you because these small steps; quarter of a footstep back to your mum, regaining some self respect and control in relation to attending job interviews, these are all things that will help you grow stronger.

The damage to your self esteem is huge, but building walls take longer than knocking them down, so small steps. Hopefully, soon, you will be on the first rung of the ladder, with a job, rather than standing at the bottom, looking up and wishing your life away.

Keep us posted. We really do wish you all the luck and hope you get what you want out of life.

Right i dont know if this is a good thing, but she has checked my references  well she checked my mum anyway because she texted my auntie to tell her she provided me with a reference earlier. Is this a good thing? Or do they always check references?

I would say that is a good thing indeed. Were you honest about who your referees were?

I thought you had gone missing! You were suddenly missing from my subscribed list and I couldn't find you in the list of users. Good to know I was not imagining it.

And, not to get too excited, we usually only look into references of those people we are interested in. So, again, another positive step forward! It will happen, soon.

It's wonderful to see where you are right now, compared to where you were when you first posted. And this is all down to you, your decision making. You chose to listen. You chose to make small changes suggested by others. I am certain it will come good for you. Maybe not today, or even next week, but it will.

Fingers and other bits crossed for you. I will now go and find your new thread...

You might not agree with my decision making when you see what is in the new thread :rotfl:but it might have paid off!
