Does anybody have any ideas on how to get more energy?

I know depression makes you tired anyway, but even my bodybuilding techniques etc aren't working these days, i'm very tired and have no energy for anything!

I'm eating well and plenty of fruit and veg, but when I see my weights, I manage a few and get too tired to do anymore, which is poor for a man of my standard :(

I'm always tired and by the time 4/5pm comes, i'm really struggling to even get out of my seat........i'm 31 and after years of bodybuilding, pretty fit still.

I sleep reasonably well - 8-10 hours per night with 1 or 2 brief wake-ups most nights. I get the odd night where sleep is poor.

I'm just fed up of being miserable and tired at the same time, let alone either apart.

With no-one to talk to about my mindset, with exception to my counsellor once a fortnight, it gets pretty tough.

It would be easy to give in and go to bed, but in all honesty, I don't think i'm tired as in tired to sleep, just tired of life which is making me physically tired too :(

    Hi all.
Hope everyone is ok tonight. I've been feeling so low lately so I haven't felt up to posting in here. Sorry.

Anyway I have been given another 2 week sicknote and this time I need to sort myself out.
I am going to get my act together and make sure I am washed and dressed everyday. I will do exercise every day, I will eat meals every day.
This way by the time I have to return to work I should at least be feeling a little more healthy.

I also aim to do a little housework every day, but only a little, I don't want to overload myself. But at the moment I am embarrassed to have family visit as the place is so bad. In fact someone came round and wrote 'clean me' on the hood of our oven in the dust!! :(

I still don't feel particularly positive. But I can't go on like this. And what's more - I can't expect my loved ones to hang around and see me self destruct.

  • Dawn, you sound so positive. I'm having a positive day too and have decided i need to try and quit smoking and start getting up, washing, dressing and maybe applying alittle make-up..is that too much to expect tomorrow...i think so. Still i will giv eit a go.
Miro, i know what you mean about tiredness. I always seem to slump about 5pm, no matter how much sleep i get. I've tried eating bananas in the afternoon and avoiding stuff like tea and coffe, but nothing seems to help. Its not a 'normal' tiredness either, its extreme and takes over.
The first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter :(

Small steps and all that. All sounds like a positive action plan. Hope it works out and remember to come on here regardless of how it goes.

Sounds like alot of us are having trouble doing even the most 'normal' of tasks. I usually just wake up and stroll through the day, hoping to get through. Good luck with the quitting smoking!

Is Tea/Coffee meant to make you tired? I drink the odd cup of tea. The tiredness is ridiculous isn't it. Makes you feel lifeless and it's still 5 or 6 hours until bedtime and the rest of the evening you feel like you have sand in your footwear when you go anywhere (kitchen, bathroom) and i'm finding my tiredness is making me very irritable :o

Let's all see if we can get up tomorrow and dress/wash/have breakfast then the subsequent meals and maybe do some exercise too - whether indoors, or go for a walk or both!

Housework too - like Dawnylou, I think I have some dust that needs sorting
  • Yes Miro, tea and coffee being stimulants (contain caffeine)do tend to make you slump later. I drink tonnes of tea, so am trying to switch to water/herbal tea only. (its not working though)
Sand in your shoes is a brill way of describing the tiredness. Sand in your eyes too.
My problem is if i sleep then, even just a two minute nap, i'm awake most of the night, so it becomes a viscious circle.
I'm with you on the promise tomorrow to get dressed, and exercise/walk.

I'd better slow down on the tea then. I have a fruit tea I have every night, I should just up that as it's herbal and all that :) Thanks for the info, i've only really been drinking tea the past couple of years since I stopped the serious gym work.

I find it's a case of waking up a few times a night and wondering what time it is etc.

Let's all do our best tomorrow :T

I find I am drinking a lot of coffee lately because I feel so exhausted, just to try and give me that extra boost. I know I shouldn't.

I tend to get to sleep fine, but I wake up throughout the night, often unable to get back to sleep. I was advised that exercise will give me a boost, releasing serotonin and raising my overal energy levels - however relaxing me so that I am able to sleep better. Gonna give it a go anyway.

Maybe if you start to slump you could go for a little walk to refresh yourself a little?

So we all have a pact that we will be up, washed, dressed and exercised tomorrow??? :D

I know what... let's see who does it all first!! :) We can have a race!! :)

I just drink tea in the evenings as it's something to drink :o

I found when I seriously worked out years ago, it didn't make any difference to me. I guess everyone is different though :o

I don't like walking in the dark, that's the only problem. I may be big enough and ugly enough, but these days...I thought about doing weights, but i'd drop them and they would make alot of noise and people live below :D

I think i'll lose the race :rotfl: I'm usually up between 10 and 12 as usually have nothing to get up for and I get bored. Maybe the first day is just going to be getting up and doing everything :T Although if I get my exercise in before the evening, I may win :rotfl:

Maybe I can convince my flatmate of going Christmas shopping....or maybe she will moan moan moan :rotfl:

Haha. Well I will be up at half six with Fiance when he gets up for work. :(
I don't get to lie in as the pups cry so I usually go down and lie on the couch all day, but tomorrow will be different.
    Well I'm off. I'm tired.

    Hope everyone sleeps well x
