I don't have an illness, I just struggle with my emotions and find it hard to cope with them which has unfortunately led to me feeling quite low at the moment, which isn't at all helped by the fact I always feel so tired.

I feel tired and drained to the point where I can't be bothered to do anything and everything takes so much effort.

I am not at all assertive. I will just go in there and mumble something about being tired probably.
I don't feel valuable at all though, I feel like I am a waste of space and a waste of time at the moment :(

Ah sorry. I'm getting a little muddled up since coming back, hopefully it won't be long till I'm on the ball.

Have you mentioned the tiredness to the doctor? That sounds like a good place to start. It might be worth telling him how long you sleep and if you find it hard to get up in the morning.

I've struggled with low self esteem and low self worth for a while, and there are some good books out there which might help . Have you had a look at your local library? I find that having a mantra helps me. Whenever I start to feel negative about myself, I remind myself that its 'Progress, not perfection'. As long as I am improving and trying, then I should be happy with myself.

Your post summed up how you feel very well. If you just say that to the doctor, hopefully they'll be able to offer some advice or support.

There is a free online course that is based on Cognitive Behaviour Therapy here:
    http://www.livinglifetothefull.com/index.php
It has modules that focus on dealing with negative thoughts. I've only done a few bits about anxiety, but it seems very good. It might be worth looking at some time as it might help with your feelings of self worth.

Juno - Well done on refusing the offer of a drink. Can I ask why you've given up alcohol if that isn't too personal. Tell me if I'm being too nosey! I've not drank for 9 and a half months now, and I remember how tricky all the 'firsts' were - the first time offered a drink, the first time I had something to celebrate etc. 3 weeks is a great achievement, well done! You definately should feel proud of yourself! How long have you been living on your own? Are you nearby to family and friends you can visit when you feel lonely? Hope you have a better day today xx
I've given up alcohol because it has a really bad effect on me. It makes me really depressed and just generally makes things worse. And I didn't drink often, but I always drank to escape things; it made them better for a while but then soon it hit me and was worse.

So one of my friends said I should stop drinking, and I agree with him.

My 3 weeks might not be totally accurate. It's definitely nearer 4 now, but it might actually be nearly 5. I tried to find a count up ticker to put in my sig, but I couldn't find any. There's loads of count down ones, like "25 weeks til my baby is born" but that's not quite what I need.

I only live on my own because my sister moved out. My daddy is supposed to live here, but never does. And even when he's here he doesn't do any shopping or cleaning or anything like that.

I can remember my sobriety date, but never how long I've been sober. I just use a calculator, saves me doing the sums!

I think alcohol has that effect on a lot of people, and its good that you've decided to not drink. Thats a great step to take. I've learnt that you can't keep running from your problems - they always find you. I'm trying to deal with them now.

How old are? I'm 20, and I live with my husband. He works really long hours, and sometimes goes on trips abroad, so I do feel lonely sometimes. I think I'm finally starting to get to grips with the housework. When my Mum did it, I never realised how much there was! I've got the landlord inspecting this afternoon, so I'm giving it a thorough clean!

I'm 21. I live with my birds, so I'm not totally alone. But I don't have many friends near me as they all moved away for uni and we've lost touch.

I'm surprised by how much cleaning there is! We have a wooden floor in the kitchen, and my sister's nicked the sweeping brush, so that's currently a bit messy. And my birds make so much mess, and Muffin currently wakes me up at 7am! I don't do mornings.

I've got a hamster and I am constantly vacuuming up bits of sawdust and bedding! He lives downstairs during the day, and upstairs at night so it gets everywhere. He sleeps in our bedroom as sometimes he gets lonely in the night and squeaks for attention! I get out of bed and give him a little fuss and he is happy. Spoilt hamster!

All the housework is done, so I can have some lunch and do some reading before the landlord gets here later this afternoon.

    Well I did it.
It was awful. My heart was beating so fast all the way to the docs, felt really stressed and panicked.
Then I burst into tears as soon as I started to speak! Felt so embarrassed and pathetic.
    Feel really tired now, drained.
My Fiance has taken dog for a walk and when he gets back we are going to snuggle up on couch together and I can snooze while we watch some TV.
    :)

Have been given a 2 week sick note to help me try and get myself back on my feet and also been prescribed some pills!!! Am dead scared of taking them though. Really worried having heard reports of weight gain and insomnia though.

Have also been put on the waiting list to speak to a counsellor, but the waiting period is about a year!!

    Yikes.

  • Well done Dawnylou.

If you are worried about the pills, you can always make another appointment with the doctor to ask about possible side effects.

    Enjoy your evening snuggled up!
