Barclaycard World MasterCard (Ex Egg Money) Being Replaced with Amex + Visa Combo

but, by that rationale, you could get an Amex Amex instead, and earn more:D0

Theyre not going to restore 1% to the VISA though. If they wanted to pay 1%, they would have just transferred the original scheme over to VISA.
that wouldn't make Barclays Bank as much money though.
they told me that they would review things after 3 months, as at least one other contributor to this thread mentioned. i will see how it goes, but may leave the account open, with both cards in the drawer--unless a good reason to whip them out comes along, with a view to saying "look at what you did, and the effect" later in the year. this all following some hard spending between now and the change.:)0 -
But I don't care whether they are reviewing the scheme. The best they will do is match my new amazon card with their VISA.illegitimi non carborundum0

fwiw, i think that would be an improvement, as 1% cashback in 'cash' credited to your card account beats 1% which you have to spend on Amazon.
and, i theory, they will come up with something better. i'm not holding my breath. but they will be seeing a decline in spending on their CB cards, so it depends how much they care. they could, in theory, have quite a bit of leverage with Amex, and push them for a better deal, and they are the biggest provider of Visa cards in the UK by a long way, so they ought to be able to push them as far as they can be pushed (accepting that the new regs are squeezing the potential cashback/rewards from Visa cards).0 -
Does anyone know when are the new cards coming?
I have both the 'High 5' card, and the old Egg card conversion... but haven't yet received any letters about this.
Stopped using the old once in anticipation, and did complain about it in order to get my High 5 fee refunded (~£23), plus a further £10 goodwill gesture. Probably should have tried to get more, but I'll do so again when I close the new accounts down (once I get the cards).0 -

It be nice to know when my letter is coming to advise of the forthcoming changes.0 -
I want to thank the OP who brought this to our attention.
Just got the £50 and 6 months double cashback!
I just want to second that thanks. Through a couple of secure messages with Barclaycard, I have just received £50 on my account, and a promise of 6 months double cashback. I don't normally write and complain about things, but because of this thread I did and gained because of it.
Thanks!0 -
Just an update on mine - I was told that the only people recieving the £50 were those paying interest, which you lovely people confirmed was a complete lie.
I complained on 17th March both about being lied to and about being treated differently from other customers, and my complaint was escalated to the Customer Relationship Team. Despite a chasing message, I've still not heard from them, despite a promise that I would be contacted in 5-7 working days.0 -
I had that. I sent a chaser after 7 days and was phoned a couple of days later.0
