Well I ended up with £30 and the double cash back on the new cards for 6 months from receiving them.

Amex 2% I foresee a few bigger than normal purchases that have been delayed getting delayed a little bit longer yet

    High 5 user here.

I complained, and had about 3 messages between myself and Barclaycard. The messages went from the overseas team (got nothing) to a complaint advisor who still appeared overseas (got nothing) and then to an advisor who was English and called me directly.

I explained how much I'd earnt this year, how much I'd earn [less] next year on the new scheme, how 2 cards are not 'easier' than 1 and how complex they're making things.

£55 offered and accepted. It appears strangely on my account though as 3 things, but it's £55 in the end.

i would be after the doubling, as the main priority. can you not ensure that double cashback generates more than £50 for you?
Only if I can use the Amex, and Im not sure who accepts it. May as well snip the VISA and use my new Amazon card where Amex isn't taken.

What about this "try it for 6 months" vague thing they were offering. I suppose there might be a slim chance they will up the VISA to 1% later.

I want to thank the OP who brought this to our attention.

Just got the £50 and 6 months double cashback!

Why would I? They're only offering the same 1% that Amazon is offering me, and would rather give my business to a card that wants me as a customer.

Just to clarify, I am not suggesting you abort your AMEX + Amazon plan, that sounds good. It was only if you cut up the VISA and Barclaycard then restored the cashback to 1% at a later date, so you could put it in a drawer instead.

Maybe it's more cathartic to chop it up though :-)

Theyre not going to restore 1% to the VISA though. If they wanted to pay 1%, they would have just transferred the original scheme over to VISA.

Fired off an email and have been offered 6 months double cashback and £30 but rejected it and going for a higher figure hopefully £50. I politely asked for the complaint to be taken higher if the CS rep did not have the authority to increase the offer.

I'll max out the 2% on Am Exp as my biggest spend has always been the weekly shop and fuel where Am Ex is taken.
