..... i have 6 stone to lose and cant imagine ever getting there. my mobility is severly restricted so besides short walks all exercise is out. i know i should be thinking in terms of small chunks of weight lose rather than the whole 6 stone but it is just so much to contemplate

Hi home Try not to think of how many months that it will take as that can be quite soul destroying and cause you to give up before you've even started. The way a lot of us here cope is by looking at short term goals such as the first 7lbs, or in 5lb chunks which is why we have the monthly challenges. I can assure you that the time will soon pass and before you know it 6 months will have passed and suddenly you are a heck of a lot slimmer. When I started here early January, 6 months seemed waaay to far ahead, but now it seems as if it was yesterday.

I would also say that lot of our eating habits are just that - habits! - and bad ones at that, but these can easily be broken especially when, as is your case, you can have a holiday during which your normal daily routines will be forgotten whilst you enjoy yourself. So when you come back from your holiday only think of your first interim target, and start a new routine to quickly get you into a healthy eating lifestyle.

I hope you're feeling brighter today and looking forward to your hols :)

I wish that I could be the oldest AND wisest....sadly it's not the latter :p but my time will come _party_ wooooh hoooh! Beware!!!!!!!

... homealone I'd echo this. If you see my sig you will see that I have one stone, seven and a half pounds to lose. I don't though in my head because I only have half a pound to lose until I'm 21 pounds away, which is my next mini target. Then the next one... then the next one....

Also, (and this is probably really silly, it's only a personal thing) I wouldn't set myself 6 stone, I'd either go for six stone three or five stone ten. When trying to achieve mini targets, I like to have the next one firmly in sight, having just reached a milestone. For instance if you had 5st 10lbs to lose, then when you are after your "three and a half stone to go" target, you will have just lost two stone, will feel buoyed and remain focused to that next target, now only 4lb away. As I say, it's silly.... I just like it. :o

home I agree with petrichor and ajax the worst thing you can do is look at the whole picture which will make you disheartened before the weight loss begins:D

I had 4 1/2 stone to loose but never set out in my mind to loose that much, just thought if I loose 2 lb a week that will do me.... everytime the weekly weigh in showed a loss I thought ahead to the next week of another 2 lb and that is the way it went on....

You have to be on a positive achievable I can do this frame of mind to begin with not the negative oh God I have so much to loose I cannot do it because slowly you can, it does come off, you get to feel happier, slimmer, every weight loss is closer to your goal target and it does get easier...

Someone asked about a SW curry - this is the recipe I use. Its meant to be syn free (although I add more stock than the recipe states and it makes it about 1- 1.5 syns for the whole lot)

    SW Curry Sauce

That was me! Thank you very much for this - sounds easy enough to make, fingers crossed! x

....lol joji do we pick up the same bad habits at the same class? This half a bottle of wine the day before a Thursday weigh-in sounds awfully familiar.

Rich people tell you that money doesn't bring you happiness just so the poor people don't feel jealous.
