Hi everyone, spendy day today as running low on petrol so £20 there and spent £5.80 in sainsburys too. Oh nearly forgot bought myself some shoes in dunnes £7 oops
Does anyone know if you can freeze opened oat milk? My little girl takes it on her cereal in the mornings but it only lasts 5 days once opened so I'm throwing away half a carton each week. Was thinking I could freeze half in a container and use the other half? Thanks xNSK April power shower #370 -
Anyone watching "My Spiral Into Debt Hell"......“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Evening all,
Hugs to you his missus it does sound like you are having a bad time of it
thrifty I'm so impressed! How do you have the energy? Or I'd it boredom or waiting?
Spend day here today as OH needed bread for lunches. He doesn't ask for much out of the food budget, just likes fresh bread for his sandwiches, bless him.
I'm feeling very fortunate today for everything really, not sure what brought it on. So I've decided to contact my lovely friends and family and tell them how much I value them. It feels nice to actually articulate it for once.LBM = 07/09/13 Debt = £13339 (100% cleared)

Love the sound of a new MacBook air.
Will disappear just now and maybe check in again later.
That sounds like a good sign. I went crazy on cleaning the house one morning after dropping DD at play group and then by the time I picked her up I started to have a show, so fingers crossed that might be a sign for you. It's horrible being overdue, I was with both of mine and the second time I was crying to the midwife to give me a sweep cos I had had enough, luckily it started naturally 2 days later.Squirrelling away in September No 33It's not about the money, it's about financial freedom, being in control of it and living in the natural world and not a material world0 -
I've been at work, 4 hours OT, I'm just winding down with a herbally tea before I hit the sack.
Apparently we get paid tomorrow, I'm not holding my breath but I will still check just in case then I can start planning for next month!Squirrelling away in September No 33It's not about the money, it's about financial freedom, being in control of it and living in the natural world and not a material world0 -
I'd say baby thrifty is going to make an appearance - when I went into labour with DS1 (3 weeks early, partner 45 miles away at a conference) I was so angry that nothing was ready for him (decorating his room pencilled in for following weekend) that I scrubbed the bathroom on my hands and knees whilst trying to ignore the clock (didn't want to anticipate contractions).
NSD 15/20 and on target to reach 20 before the month end. Food £127/110 and travel £27.10/25. Nothing on clothes. Cut my hair myself. De-cluttering at a standstill. Not done a favour for anyone.
Feeling angry at myself and frustrated at how little I can do. Did look round the other day and try to work out if/how I can do various jobs but not much headway (Wiped bath and sink -Sat? - by holding on with one hand and wiping with the other).
Tried to start sorting the laminate flooring (3 piles, Mr builder said enough for 2 rooms) as there are 2 similar colours. Need to work out how much of each so can decide where to use it. Simple job normally- can see difference if put two panels side by side, but get tired after 3 panels and have used up space in front room (6 piles, 3 large unsorted, 3 small sorted)
I have a box (large toolbox, lower than a chair but better than being on the ground as I struggle to get back up off the floor). I use it for weeding / painting skirting boards and tried to work out how I could sort the panels using this but not come up with anything yet.
I have managed to attack the washing up pile (and dried and put away later), make the boys a lamb 'dinner' (mostly from the freezer, prepared for Christmas and didn't get used when the cooker died) and brought in the clothes I put out on Friday (tried to cut up the large rubbish to go in the bin, but gave up when I struggled to pick the knife up after it fell to the ground). Put the bins out tonight (boys took the bag and papers I gave them and put them in the bins but failed to take them to the pavement. Very grateful for point of equilibrium - managed the 10 foot trip twice.
Work is progressing. DS3's friend has mended his wardrobe door (wrong/ bad hinges on a floor to ceiling piece of blockboard with further wood panelling on top), fixed the squeaking floorboards, re-hung the kitchen door and reclaimed two of the old attic stairs (again previous owner used used wrong fixings, power driven in, difficult to undo).
DS3 has been taught to fill holes in walls (wanted to know why it had to be done again when friend sanded first fill down) and done the top cupboard (anti-mould and paint) in the little bedroom (but not inside the wardrobe, above the rail - so the old kitchen cupboard and the bedding could go back). He also finished their dinner under instruction and cooked a pizza for his friend later (I suspect DS3 had lion's share of dinner - he did say he would let friend pick first). I had soup - decided it was better to make sure they had plenty rather than eking out between three. I have found another pack of sliced turkey so maybe enough for 3 another day (used last two carrots but have a tin of sweetcorn. No Yorkshires left - maybe that will get DS3 to the shop.
I am annoyed with myself as the credit card bill has arrived. I managed to transfer the balance in mid January and over-paid (determined not to have that annoying trickle of charges you get if the balance is not completely cleared). I ended up with a credit balance which I used to pay for house improvement costs in order to get my money back. I have continued to use it and now it looks really high.
Going through it a second time it's not that bad. £168.76. A hundred+ is home improvements - paint/filler/heavy duty cleaning supplies. Rest is food - about a third for DS2 as I went shopping for him when he was stuck in bed, paid on the card and put his cash into my bank account. Our food spending has already been declared. Just don't like spending any money.
Looking on the bright side (painkillers are starting to kick in - slept for 3 1/2 hours earlier but was having difficulty straightening my leg when I woke up) since January I have paid for roof repairs, had a 'new' kitchen installed, repainted nearly all the upstairs of the house. May need one more can of paint and some more bits to do all minor repairs. All of this has been done without any extra resources - DS3's grant money would normally be used to pay down debts. Have paid for all these other things and still reduced debt.
Plus new cooker (Mr builder again) saved me at least £120 (had looked on-line to get some idea of the cost - was going to buy one when the house was definitely sold) and I was looking at mini-oven/ halogen cookers as not having the option was getting me down. Laminate flooring would have been £500? (DS3's friend confirmed it is older/ better quality then currently available).
By doing most of the work myself and accepting what others are throwing away (+ passing on wood I could not use to keep Mr and Mrs builder warm) I have done £1000s of work. I just need to keep plodding and accept that next month will just be keeping heads above the water while working towards getting the house up for sale 9and then working on surviving until it is sold).
I am hungry (seeing this and the pain - lot less severe but more random as signs of improvement). I did try to get DS3 to go to the SM with my cc today. I was going to give him a list and a maximum spend. It's a bit of a pre-emptive strike - there isn't a lot of 'boy food' in the house and a small SM spend is better than a large takeaway spend. It is definitely worth keeping his friend for a few extra days - jobs I could (normally) do myself but he has the tools and can do in half an hour something I would spend all day on. It's not as if I am short of things that need doing.
I don't have any plain yoghurt left. I am seriously considering eating raw broccoli with strawberry yoghurt. Good morning.
Trying to take it easier today as still sore from yesterday. But it was just Braxton hicks. Been off three weeks now. Don't really do lazy days, although I had a couple, as I then feel guilty having sent DS to nursery if I just watch telly, iykwim. Might take it easier today, just start the shed (need emptying before scrapping) and look at next month's spreadsheets.
mothernerd, wow you are a right busy bee too. Hope you get it all done soon and the house sells quickly so you can relax a bit.
Might also try and find that programme to watch.
