Thanks Mrs GSR and Fmes. I was hoping I didn't come across as a sulking whining ninny, lol.

And yes, Fmess that was the programme (couldn't remember the name). It was heartbreaking seeing people having to make a choice not to eat, so their children could. My choice is to do without a luxury, but not the basics. And I was urging the security guard and his wife to go bankrupt, rather than pay that preposterous amount of interest. Please, please please, if anyone on here is in that situation, do not carry on! It was a false pride that was killing them, but at the same time, I appreciate people are scared. There are CABs attached to some bankruptcy courts, for goodness sake seek help. It really broke my heart! And then the family getting tick from the chicken shop. Myself and my daughter were watching it and we both promised, that every day, would say what we are grateful for. We have a lot to be grateful for. Embarrassingly, I didn't even realise it!

On the skincare subject... Have any of you tried Liz Earle? My mum introduced me to it and I really like it, I have skin that gets quite dry but also gets spots (particularly certain weeks in the month). My mum uses the moisturiser too which I don't, so we order a "complete pack" and split it between us. Works out a bit cheaper, although I do sometimes feel it is an extravagance...

Oh yes! My OH's mum loves it, so I always 'borrow' it when I'm round at hers - I love the toner. I have a cheapy version of C&P from Asda (the n-spa range?) that is nice.

Credit card is officially clear!! Aiming to keep it that way... Mysteriously found £35 in my bank account this morning marked 'deposit refund' - no idea what it's from but hoping it stays there!

Your post about cards (oh no not more cards! :p) hit a nerve with me traveller.. I have been sending cards to my sisters 'kids' and their offspring for years (8 in total) and never get a card in return :( last year i made the decision not to give the adults money and although cards for this year are already bought and sent, i have now, since reading your post, decided not to send cards next year other than to the children..

i will tune into that programme on i player

I do think that when your sentimental, it hurts all the more, because it's the lack of thought as opposed to lack of money, that's responsible :( As an example, at christmas, he buys everyone stuff. Which shows me, it's more for show, than the fact, you have any real care or thought, iyswim?

I completely agree. A member of my brother in laws family is like this, he spends so so much on everyone as some sort of competition with his dad, sad really that he feels his has to do that instead of actually spending quality time with them. It is about thinking of others more than the money. My brother forgot my birthday AGAIN this year and I got a text, a few days later he turned up at my house knowing I wasn't in to drop off a present. It's the same date every year, I don't understand how he can forget?!

At the risk of contradicting everyone, I disagree with the whole no card or pressie thing. If you have a certain standard then I think you should stick to it. I don't believe people should stoop to another person's level.
I was going to get someone a really rubbish pressie (as a response to getting a fish tank ornament for my bday one year) just to prove a point as I always overspend on pressies on them. However, as it got nearer to their birthday, I started thinking that I enjoy giving people presents and seeing their reaction and I started doubting myself. Why should I stoop to their level. I realised that I would probably feel really awful and guilty afterwards.
I hope that makes sense. I am not arguing with you or anything like that, I just feel that you should think about how you would feel afterwards, if you missed his 21st bday.

Erm... I have slept all day today (the joys of nightshift) so it's another spend-free day!!

Thank you :) I do see where your coming from, as I usually always think like you do on this and up until this month, it was a sure thing he was getting nothing! However, this month I have been going back and forth with it. But, as his mother I think I have to teach him a life lesson. That is, do not take people close to you for granted. When a girlfriend becomes a wife, she may well not be worth impressing and then the selfishness will rear it's ugly head again. And what would I have done to combat this behaviour while he was young enough to learn a lesson-encourage it. I do get exactly where you are coming from. I think if he hadn't out and out lied about getting the girlfriend something and then denying we had the conversation, i'd let it go to be honest.

He leaves two days before his birthday, so i still will have time to see how i feel ;)

its the taking for granted bit that gets me too, especially when there isn't a thankyou either :( i have mentioned this to my sister and there has been many occasions where I've had a thankyou text a week later when she's clearly chased them up ;) She tends to send a card on their behalf from the whole family on my birthday..

I don't think I would feel guilty about changing practices next year and not sending them one? I don't think they would be offended either, after all sending cards is not a mutual thing between us, its all one way :(

Morning, predicted SFD today. Need to pick up my boots delivery later (paid for) and planning a quiet day of crafts with the children. No baking for me today!

I've had a crappy week at work, kept injuring myself and have a multitude of cuts and bruises. It is to be expected in my line of work but even so this week has been ridiculous. Hurt my hand on Wednesday and scraped my ankle last night! Sometimes I wonder to myself why I do it! Hopefully it will only be for a few more years and when DS is at school I can attempt to figure out what I'm going to do! I'm not going back to teaching that's for sure.
