Good evening.
Have 2 spend-free days to declare thanks to work. (the joys of only sleeping, eating and working is that there is no time for shopping).
So, that's 11 out of 20!!
:j
Spend day today... again, forgot about the foodbank (due to stockpiling, I am never near the toiletries aisle so I never get a reminder). sorry.
We have £42 left for the rest of the month... which I think is pretty good going seeing how we have a smaller budget this month.
I hope things look up for those who are struggling just now. I am a firm believer that money and their associated issues will come and go but family are with you for life. They are the priority... but that is just my opinion.
Hugs to those who need them.
Is there any way to hurry that baby up thrifty?? Would a hot bath help or a long walk?? As you can guess my knowledge of pregnancy is pretty much nil.
:embarasse
Not really done much today apart from sleep to be honest. A bit of a dull update, sorry.
Keep plodding on torties.
Hugs.
P.S: forgot to say the reason why it is all rounded figures for spends is because I have been using the envelope/cash system and all change less than £1 is going into the saving pots.
We currently have £801 in our two pots plus our ten pence collection which is about £150ish and we have about 300 euros so we are doing really well with the saving.
I know it sounds stupid when we could throw that money at the credit card but then next year we would have no money saved for holidays, car stuff, home insurance, xmas stuff and would end up using the credit card again. I am trying to break that cycle and I am hoping this will work for us.Mortgage: £0/£80,329.91

a spicy curry and an 'early night' thrifty?
Would that help little one along? :rotfl::rotfl:
I also know nothing about pregnancy (yet - I'll be in for a shock!!)
Spendy day today - hoping for no spends for the rest of the week.
Just 10 days til OH's payday and we can make further headway - just desperate to get under 10k now so the final straight looks closer and more realistic
Gargh! Monday tomorrow - more and more tempted to move to a 4-day working week!!!

Having had two "late" babies Thifty, I feel your pain. I tried all sorts to get things moving with mine but nothing works sadly, they come when they want. All the best for when things do start!
Luckystarr, I've only managed to achieve all my SFDs once and that was cos my children had chicken pox so we were housebound. So this month, when we could set our own target I set it low so I knew I could achieve it. Anything over that will be a bonus.Squirrelling away in September No 33It's not about the money, it's about financial freedom, being in control of it and living in the natural world and not a material world0 -
Thanks MrsGSR :T
i think i was aiming a little too high !!
I am going to reduce it to ten (sorry if this is cheating KAT)

Evening all,
mothernerd I love your postsIt sounds as if DS2 and 3 are better off in separate houses if the finances allow it!
SFD number 7 here, I seem to be getting worse at SFDs the longer I do these challenges, and I set this months target, so I have no excuses grrrrr
Exercised yesterday and today, visited friends and family and did a lot of decluttering, so so very productive weekend.
I am so keen to get all these debts paid off, especially the ccard which is now so close to being emptyIt should be empty next month but might need some non-optional electrical work doing so will have to wait and see.

Sending out some cyber hugs :grouphug: to all those needing them.
Feeling pretty good with how things are going this month other than the blasted grocery budget. Well actually SFD's isn't great either largely linked to grocery spends. I think my problem is 1) I love :happyhear food!! 2) I can't bare the thought of not being well stocked up - why is this?? The thing is I probably have enough meat/meat type substitutes for at least a month but maybe a fair bit longer but I will still need to buy things like milk fresh fruit/veg and other lunch box stuff. I think I will almost certainly go over budget as can't see me spending less tan £29 over 2 weeks. Feel like £240 for the month for the four of us should be more than doable but as I am not prepared to cut out things like fresh fruit and veg maybe it is just too ambitious. I barely throw any food away so it isn't that we are wasting things and we are all very active so have good (big) appetites???
Went out for one of my best friends birthdays yesterday, it was in a pub garden but I had this planned for from the beginning of the month and we spent less than £10 for the whole afternoon. I ran a windy route to my parents and hubby drove over their with the kids, he helped my dad for a couple of hours on the campervan conversion and we blagged lunch, we had toyed with the idea of getting it at the pub but as we had used our groupon christmas present voucher for a meal out on Friday we really didn't need the treat (we'll save it for another day). We had one drink each and nursed them slowly - I went for a white wine and soda but just a small wine in a pint glass topped right to the brim with soda water.
DH then ran home while me and the ids came back in the car and cooked up a nice roast. I have two good size chicken portions now in the freezer to use for pies or something similar.
I ran some errands on the way back from the school run and have done a bit of household admin but really need to get a bit of cleaning done before picking up DS2 from preschool at 11.30 - I hate housework with a passion especially as things only stay clean and tidy for such a short space of time with my boys in the house.

Good Morning one and all...
TipToesDB and Buffy it's sad to see you go but I understand family matters can get in the way and I hope to see you bothback in April even just as lurkers. Hope you are both okay today ang things pick up for you.... Hugs from the team!
Mothernerd - there is no reason for you to apologise for posting. it's what we are hear for. It's interteresing to read about your progress and the problem solving techniques involved the DS's... Good luck with the rest of the declutter and make sure you have a little rest. All this being-on-the-go is enough to wear you down.... and I should know...
The issue of birthdays............I am useless when it comes to remembering them. Honestly useless. But I always want to spoil my friends but never have enough money! So I don't send anything - although this is a habit I want to get out of. One girlfriend got three very cool gifts on her birthday in November and I have another girlfriend who has a birthday very soon... I am just forgetful. Mum and Dad and Granny though I never forget - brother sometimes.
I need to rectify that. I see what you mean about the 21st Birthday. I think something very small to mark the day will hit home sooner than nothing at all. Which you might regret. Yes you need to teach him a lesson but when he expects lots of money or free reign on the CC while he is away - get him some pants to take on holiday or socks. That will shut him up for a bit. Perhaps with frogs on them?:T:T:T
Thrifty - no baby yet???
LuckyStarr the number of SFD's this month is up to you remember. You do what you wish!
MrsGSR - tell me what you meant by your parents had to fight to keep you here. Would they sent you all back to NZ? And what course are you doing? Mine was a "peer mentoring" course.....
Chickadee I used to give blood all the time. It's now on myu to-do list before I go. My Mum is O+ and I am O- so we are called all the time. There is one very close to work but they always had issues finding my veins... However I need to be careful with vaccinations now but I think I might be able to squeeze in a session before Yellow Fever next week. Thanks for the reminder though!
So I am still awake. Barely. Having got to bed at nearing 0100 and up at 0500 I am ready for a snooze when I get home. Day finsihes at 1500 for me so it's not like I am stressed.
I have an online course to do in conjunction with this class-room based one I did last week. I need to focus on that tonight as I only have a month left to do having let a month lapse due to being to busy. There is a fine of £200 if you don't get it completed although it was free to register for - once chosen you have taken up a place so need to do it. Eeeek!
More from me later....“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent".0 -
NSK, basically yes. I had to get a British passport straight away as well. I was the only member of my family who didn't have one at that time. They had to apply for my right of abode age 8. I now have dual nationality.
I'm doing a breast feeding peer support course locally, it's taken years to get to this point so I am quite excited. Your course sounds fascinating , how did you get to do it?Squirrelling away in September No 33It's not about the money, it's about financial freedom, being in control of it and living in the natural world and not a material world0 -
Hi all!
Sorry, been MIA most of this month. My head just hasn't been in the right place recently and I've kind of slipped into the dolldrums (sp?) and am struggling to get back out the other side.
Been spending about £50 a week on groceries, really wanted to be aiming more for £40 though. Still have £400 in my bank acount (and it's payday on Friday) so should hit my £500 saving target. Think I'm still on track for 4SFDs a week though.
Take care xxx0
