    Thanks lotti.

MrsGSR - I agree that swimming is important to learn as a child. Could she do ballet every other week or is it a pay for the term type of class?

    Evening All x

Spendy day for me today, the banger got thro the mot 2nd time round with a few tweaks to the brakes, so cost me £80 altogether. The mechanic I use charges me £60 to take the car for the mot, but its worth paying him the extra as he charges me so little to do any work, only £20 today for fixing the brakes. Also paid the car tax so that was another £77. At least I can work out where I stand for the month now.

Also finally got my council tax bill for 2014/2015 and its £119 a month over 10 months. Have decided not to spread it over the year so I can have 2 months without it next year.

Am currently printing off Avon stuff but will work out monthly budget later on. Finally got hold of my SL for Avon and she said that the new rule is that I can only have 120 properties for the first 3 campaigns. Considering that I dropped books off at more than that already and got 1 order, I told her I didn't think I was going to get anywhere fast. I also ended up with only 14 properties saying that they wanted a book again, all the others said no or didn't bother to return them. So she's basically told me to do what I like and just let her know which roads I drop in!! I guess I'll find out pretty quickly if I'm on anyone else's patch!

Anyhoo, totals haven't changed since yesterday but I'll put them up again so I know where to find them!!

  • Hi all, I'm very sorry I have not been here. My friends mum died so everything has been a bit up in the air. I have been minding her kids and helping out etc for the past 2weeks so have lost control of the budgets and ate too many takeaways.

I really am realising how big of problem I have with money, I just can't stop spending. Especially on food! My cupboards, fridge and freezer are bulging yet I'm sitting here debating whether to go to tesco. Help me!!! I really don't understand what my problem is. Sorry for the downer post. Havnt had a chance to read back through the thread so hope everyone is doing much better than me xx

I meant to congratulate on your weight loss too dolly84, well done :)

MrsGSR I would agree about the swimming lessons. I used to teach swimming and adults find it so much harder to learn and many end up with the a phobia of the water if they are not confident swimmers. It will also give you confidence if your dd wants to go swimming with friends once she is older. Alternatively, if you had time, you could teach her to swim?

Today is SFD number 10 :) also took lunch to work. I've had a not too busy day but had a horrible headache for most of the day so was less productive :(

Only one week until payday :) Looking forward to knocking the debt down although may not be able to do it straight away as have a few unknown potential costs that would be cheaper if I was to pay in cash, so I may hold onto the cash until the costs (if any, fingers crossed) are known.

Hope you are all having lovely evenings :)

I can't comment from a parent perspective, but I'd agree that swimming is more important as a kid - you're unlikely to learn to swim as an adult, and it could be a lifesaving skill one day. Whereas ballet she can take up when she's a bit older (unless she's keen to be a professional ballerina, which it doesn't sound like is the case if she's picked swimming!), and maybe she could save her pocket money towards lessons then. I didn't start ballet til I was 18 due to my mum saying a similar thing about picking one activity, but it hasn't done me any harm and I've done all the activities I wanted to do as a kid, just not at the same time! I have friends who were at classes every night for tennis/dancing/swimming/gymnastics etc and none of them have carried on doing those things as an adult any more than I have...

Oh I agree and I am still beating myself up for not booking her in sooner (she did lessons till she was 2 and I finished work and then couldn't afford it and had DS and couldn't manage it)

It's a pay for the term type thing. Tbh I have just endured it more than anything, it's half an hour of hell trying to keep DS happy in a tiny church hall side room. We arent really part of that ballet crowd either.

This is very true of DH and I. We can both swim but are not keen or strong swimmers, as children we both had accidents in the sea, DH had to be resuscitated and as a result as an adult he hates water being splashed in his face or over his head. It freaks him out.
As a result I don't have the time or the skill but I'm not sure when I can fit it in with DHs work and a wriggly DS! Still I will look into it tomorrow. After our experiences we do want them to be confident swimmers.

Thanks for the replies. Having asked DD again she said she wanted to wear goggles and swim like a mermaid bless her!

Sending thought-hugs your way, sounds like a very stressful time!

Personally I find comfort in knowing there is food and meals at home, and in buying food - at such a difficult time I'd probably be in the supermarket every other day "just picking up x". It is something I need to work on too - it's why we're doing these challenges! It can be quite satisfying to go "freezer surfing" and make a list of everything in stock, then meal ideas sort of spring up and I feel very proud of myself for not going to T3sco. Probably slightly odd behaviour!

In my news, yesterday was SFD #8/15. Off to check the state of the current account now... wish me luck!

    Thank you fmess.

SiannieLaz - It is hard to get your Avon customer base started, I had loads and loads of houses to start with and I had to knock on doors to get the book back and then people look annoyed at being disturbed which in turn annoys me because they didn't leave it out. On my first campaign one customer ordered £40 worth of stuff, great I thought, on the delivery day she pinned a note on her gate saying she didn't want it. The only way to make easy money with it is if you can sell to a good number of people at work.

Tea-lover - I understand your shopping problem completely, having a full cupboard, fridge and freezer is like a comfort blanket for me.

I am having a day off the exercise today, last night my thighs were agony from cycling up hills I think. I will still walk the dog for an hour so that still counts. A SFD again today.

Finally got some time and energy to sit and update on here.

I've been reading every day, I often sneak ten minutes at work to catch up but can't really post.

Doing ok budget wise. Gone a little over on my food budget. Borrowing £10 from the medical budget to last out the month for food. So far, only £2.01 over and that's because the OH is coming this weekend and I needed to buy a few bits of 'real food'. What I've got now will definitely last me until the end of the month though!

14 SFD's so far which means I should make my target of 20. Today is definitely a spend day. The car had to go in for it's MOT so I combined a Service in with it, saves me a bit of money and also saves on having to get a loan car for the service which would be due in a month or so. Got the day off today so didn't get a loan car. Once I'd dropped it off at 8:15, I will get a lie in one day soon, maybe, perhaps, I walked to sainsbos with my rucksack and got the last bits I needed. That was only a ten minute walk. Then walked all the way home. That was about 45 minutes. Wasn't too bad, legs were definitely feeling it and was doing the classic swappy hands shopping bag thing. Couldn't quite fit it all in the rucksack.

S*ds law though, I'd just got home and the garage rang, I need two new bulbs but it will be ready in about an hour! I think I'm going to hop on a bus to get to the main part of town, I don't think my legs will take it!

In other news, I've had a very spendy week, I've put in an offer for a house and it's been accepted. Bit of a long chain but I'm hopeful things will move quickly. Need to speak to my solicitor today, another of my day off jobs.

Looking on target to be able to put £400 to the credit card next week on pay day. I know, I know Kat I should have done it at the start of the month, but it's the first month in the new bank account so wanted to make sure all my DD's were covered.

I haven't gone over budget this month but I did make a silly mistake. Well, two actually. The first was not making a note of how much I carried over from last month. Any notes I have left from one month I move into the next month's budget. The second was not getting the full remainder of the budget out of the bank. I only got £200 out. I've still got money left, and I think I would only need to get £60 to make up my budget. I'm hoping though that I can make out the month with what I have.

    Hi Torties

*peeks from underneath a craggy rock*

    'ow do?

Been at work for the last 6 long days and nights and finished a night shift a few hours ago. Jumped on the treadmill for a little trot first thing on getting home, then had breakfast, did the washing, dusting and hoovering, and changed the bedding so will go to bed for a power nap once Ive posted now.

11 SFDs to date which Im happy with. Pay day in 8 days and I can not wait!:T My monthly budgets start properly from pay day to pay and Im really pleased with the fact that I have only spent £60ish on food, fun and miscellaneous in this period :j. I have been quite strict with myself as its a 'short' month and psychologically I find it easier to spend less! Next month is also a shorter month as pay day falls on a weekend and bunce will appear in my bank account on the friday before, so I will have to see what miraculous budgeting and no spending I can come up with then! I really need to hold out and refrain from splurging over the next 8 days so Im really taking one day at a time and eating what I have left in my food supplies..

I filled my fuel tank last month and Im hoping there will be enough petrol in my car to last me until next week. I am likely to need to do a relatively big shop at that time to stock up on everything including food, toileteries, laundry, the lot!

I had a refund for my fake leather phone holder as I felt guilty about spending on such an unessential item! It wouldnt be the first time I have dithered over a purchase for ages and returned it to the shop having bought the bloomin thing :rotfl:

Anyrowd, sleep is creeping in like an eerie mist and my peepers are closing so I shall bid you all a good day and a good night :D
