This is a public form , OP does not need to tip toe, everyone can write as they see fit - for the situation they are in.

Dogs barking - classes will not help for it.

Dogs bark in the house/in the garden, no classes will deal with this issue.

I know, Zara used to bark - and she is a 40kg of a GS. It has been sorted some time ago and everyone is happy but it was an issue for some time. Neighbours mentioned it, I dealt with it. Took ages though. And a lot of work on my side.

I asked OP when the dogs bark? Do they bark when the owners are in or when the owners are out - this is important.

Some techniques do work. My sister has a "disgusting yappy" jack russell who barked quite a lot in the garden, she is of a slightly nervous disposition and could hear the neighbour on the other side of the fence and thought "WE'RE UNDER ATTAAAAAAACK!!!". All they did was go round to speak to the neighbour and they tried a couple of techniques where they introduced the dog to the neighbour on neutral ground outside the houses and now when their dog is outside and can hear the neighbour she knows "oo there's Mrs. Next Door" and makes no noise whatsoever.

Yes, if the owners are at home when the dog barks, sure.

Not if the dog barks when left alone.
  • I have a feeling people having a go at OP never have never been exposed to high pitch barking that little dogs produce - over a period of time?

Everyone has a differente noise tolerance level - what may be ok for one person, can drive another person insane.

I have no problems with ocassional deep kind of bark from a large dog but small high pitch barking drives me absolutely insane. Same as kids screeming their heads off or any kind of high pitched noise.

OP - just have a word with yoru neighbours, they may honesly not realise how much their dogs are bothering you.
little dogs bark more as well, I can't prove it but I know it to be true. it's small man syndrome. A big dog is secure that it can bark its head off and people will sit up and take note, a little dog isn't that secure so it compensates, I'd also argue with aggression as well as gob.

neighbours nice to date - only been here some months. you hear about neighbours just flipping and having moved to escape a truly bad neighbour - drug parties police arrests etc, I'd rather get to know new ones first before any history repeating itself. I don't want it to be like those stories your read where they were great UNTIL. Seriously - had my fingers burned in past. Gotta treat this place with more caution particularly as I bought it. I'm here to stay.

they bark all weekend and quite often late into the night, because they love barking and yapping constantly.

as for checking it out - how many times do you view a house? well, we did 2-3 times. none of the times were there issues. it's either got worse or we saw the house 3 times and they were clearly out, yapping merrily annoying someone else (yappy dogs, being hyperactive in nature sleep approx. 3 seconds a calendar month after which they wake up and immediately start yapping with great fervour and volume because they think they have slept longer and fear nobody has given them attention - therefore they can't have been within a 1 square mile radius)

my cats are sleek and beautiful, they don't make foul high pitched yapping noises like that. some dog loving posters have blamed my cats poo and garden habits (before actually reading they don't go outside) for provoking these horrid little monsters. ..Not so. These little monsters yap because they love yapping, plain and simple; they do not need something as great and as above them as a fine cat to give them an all day licence to be annoying little toe rags, that particular role is their birth right, from cradle to grave, yap yap yap yap yap yap yap

....probably cause they wish they were a cat..

I'm with those who have said why didn't you check this out sufficiently before you bought the house? We viewed our house 3 times before exchange, on the first visit we saw that one of our neighbours had a dog and it was our responsibility to determine whether it would be something that would put us off buying due to noise levels. As it is there is the occasional bark but, again as others have said, this is what they do. He's a perfectly lovely little animal and we got to know him quite well when our fence between the two gardens was down during the storms!
Are you serious? If the house is in the right area at the right price it is the last thing I would check on.
As it is, I couldn't sleep in one of my bedrooms due to new buyers who were happy to wake up the neighbourhood instead of taking their inbred dog for a walk.
Checking around to see if anyone had a yappy dog 22 years ago, would not have accounted for this particular inbreed as it wasn't born then.
I have reported the noise along with other neighbours and it is a lot quieter. Why do some people have a sense of entitlement? Spoiled as children probably.

I would rather hear the occasional bark from a dog than have an animal using a box on the floor in my home as a toilet. Get in bed, you'll be tired for school in the morning.

Are the owners of these constantly yapping dogs deaf, or immune to the noise?

    I've often wondered about that.

Because most kindly people with consideration for others would try and reduce noise that might disturb neighbours etc.

Hence my asking about the owners!

This makes no sense. We are not talking about the occasional bark from a dog. What is your point about school?

dogs don't think like that. The reason a small dog barks is the as the reason a big dog barks. The reason little dogs often bark more is because owners allow little dogs to get away with more than big dogs do

then I definitely think a friendly word with the neighbours is in order - but I wouldn't call them disgusting or monsters to the neighbours faces!

as for checking it out - how many times do you view a house? well, we did 2-3 times. none of the times were there issues. it's either got worse or we saw the house 3 times and they were clearly out, yapping merrily annoying someone else (yappy dogs, being hyperactive in nature sleep approx. 3 seconds a calendar month after which they wake up and immediately start yapping with great fervour and volume because they think they have slept longer and fear nobody has given them attention - therefore they can't have been within a 1 square mile radius)
I have 6 small dogs who love their sleep and would sleep 23 out of 24 hours a day if they could.

my cats are sleek and beautiful, they don't make foul high pitched yapping noises like that. some dog loving posters have blamed my cats poo and garden habits (before actually reading they don't go outside) for provoking these horrid little monsters. ..Not so. again, dogs don't bark because they think "I love the sound of my own voice so much I'll shout at the top of my voice all day long". They do it to alert attention or because something is bothering them. My dogs only bark in the garden when they hear something (like a neighbour in their garden). They are telling me to be aware as well as letting someone know not to come near their territory.

....probably cause they wish they were a cat..

I think I read that both your neighbours on both sides have yapping dogs (have I got this right?). If so, it is more than likely they are barking at each other.

OP i havnt a problem with you wanting yapping dogs to yap less. What I didnt/dont like is the words you use, I really do hope they were written in jest. The statements below are from your posts.

    nasty little yappy dogs.
    horrible little things.
so ok some people love these disgusting things.
my neighbours love these horrible things
ittle dogs bark more as well,
    foul high pitched yapping noises

I have a "small dog" he weighs in at 4.5kg. Guess what he doesnt bark. Had my Teeg still been alive then that statement would have been he does bark during the day but not at night unless there was some one about.

My friend has a Finish Spitz and he barks for England, and he isnt a smallie.

It takes alsorts, just be thankful if all you have bothering you is "yappy Dogs". Far better that then a drugs den or nasty neighbours.

Good luck with your quest, I bet a nice word in the ears of the owners will solve your problem.
