disgusting yappy barking dogs

Hi
Just moved to an area , bought a detached house with my gf and many cats, everything's brilliant.

..... except.

next door both ways love nasty little yappy dogs. Every day they open the doors and these horrible little things literally zoom out throw their heads back and yap - they love it! it is as if you put one outside and it feels like it was born to yap all day long, which of course is what it does. Irritatingly , you go near your own fence and the horrible little things think your house is their territory. This makes them raise their head to the wind even more and yap as if it is going out of style. Not that they need a reason, you go infoors again and they yap anyway cause that is what their maker created them to do, high pitched none stop yapping until they're so tired from doing it they fall asleep having yapped all the last bowl of pedigree whatever it is out of them, only to wake up some point later and.... think, wow i'm awake, what can I do today for a nice change?....throw their head back immediately, open that shitsu snout wide , pause for effect and..

so ok some people love these disgusting things. I don't and I don't expect to have to put up with it. However, I'm also not the sort of person who wants to write to a council or have a go because each to their own, my neighbours love these horrible things for some reason, they're not at all irritated by the constant yappery.

So what do you do ? throw a cat at them? was looking into passive ways of sorting it out and I came across this

http://www.barkstop.co.uk/

has anyone used it ?

it occurred to me this would annoy my cats too and my cats don't walk around barking all day for no reason (my cats are nice well mannered indoor cats so its not their fault the dogs bark the dogs bark because they love barking, they need no reason..), so I'd feel bad if the cats got zapped with the ultrasound when it isn't their fault.

has anyone else moved to a neighbourhood only to their horror finding it to be packed full of the smallest yappiest most aggressive nasty little dogs who love the sounds of their own voices and never shut up - what did you do to cope?

Cheers
Andy

what did you do to cope?

I threw my computer out the window with as much force as I could muster. I strongly suggest you do the same thing.
  • why would I do that? the dogs would think a computer was invading their territory which is actually my garden and yap for centuries at the insult of this....besides, I couldn't research ways to get rid of horrible anti social yappy dogs if I had no PC could I?

Buy this. Guaranteed noise reduction, safe to use, cheap to buy and reusable. Very MSE! :money:

Otherwise, I'm not too sure there is much you can do unless you alert the owners to the fact that their dogs are being a nuisance, even then, all that is likely to do is make the owners defensive. Small dogs will yap, unfortunately. I've got a similar situation and just try not to let it bother me.

    Earplugs.

I wouldn't b comfortable with a neighbour using a ultrasonic repellant on my dogs without my consent. And isn't there a risk that if it works they will move slightly further away and continue to bark? May also annoy your cats.

you could also report to local council. If they find the dogs to be causing significant disturbance they can work with the owner on reducing the noise.

Bear in mind that your cats may be provoking some of the barking. They may also be annoying your neighbours by peeing and pooping in their garden, and chasing after birds they may like to feed. Live and let live perhaps.

Its a very effective anti-troll measure.

Wow. Im a cat lover and my cats are indoor cats as well, but there are people in the block of flats I live in that have dogs that bark and they arent little yappy dogs, they are bigger dogs. As you say, thats what dogs do.

But calling these dogs disgusting and nasty? And you wonder why people are calling you a troll?

Unless these dogs are barking all day and all night long the council wont get involved.

Having neighbours either side of you with dogs isnt packed full. You are coming across as a bit of a drama queen to be honest.

We don't have close neighbours, but I do have dogs that bark. Its part of their job.

They bark at the post man, the lorry that comes every morning at the same time and various other things.

They do NOT bark at my clients who attend the property regularly . Because they accept them as ' normally allowed and friends'. I guess my suggestion would be chum up with your neighbours and the dogs, see if that helps.
  • how about cutting them out with the TV or RADIO volume?

that way if either neighbor comes a banging on your door for the noise of your tv or bass from stereo could always say I could turn it down but your dogs bark so loud I cant hear it nor bear it?

wasn't this evident at time of viewing when going to inspect to buy your house?

Your description of the animals is what got people backs up your on a pet forum after all and your "vent" has probably insulted many people, you could have probably toned it down and put it in a different more pleasant way.

such as neighbors dogs are constantly barking as thread tittle.

then said something like. my both adjoining neighbors have dogs that are barking all day long, I don't wish to complain to the council as im new in the area, I don't want to cause any ill feeling and long lasting dispute that I ever want to leave and move on it wouldn't affect resale in having to declare it in the paper for the house.

The barking is causing me stress and headaches, how can I approach my neighbors with the issue, or is there something I can buy or do that could settle the barking.

well, that may be so - but I challenge anyone on here to put up with the levels of incessant barking I have to, day in, and day out. Only time it stops is when I'm at work. It is enough to drive anyone mad, so I guess drama queen accompanies general loss of rationale, which is what you get when you live next to a field of yappy little dogs going at it until the cows come home!

I personally think the laws on this are inadequate, and plenty of dog owners simply do not care about noise pollution. I also think the USA is streets ahead of the UK in terms of its approach to noise pollution. I think the reason why we don't do anything about it, is that it's not so much in your face offensive, but a gradual and constant grind on the senses. Shouldn't have to put up with it.

  • also, the purpose of a troll in internet usage- is to find a subject on X Y or Z and maliciously, with no purpose argue against it or oppose it - that's my understanding anyway, the purpose of this post is to see if anyone has encounted incessant dog barking and gain advice on what they did about it.

it annoys me really how certain words are so mis-used in the English language - troll being one of them. It's not the one size fits all defence, it's one of the most mis-interpreted pieces of intenet slang out there. It's literally like the medieval "its a witch burn the witch" - ignorant and far too freely thrown into play.
