Going up our stairs we have a display of sixteen photos of places we have been, no people in them.
Our lounge has a humongous photo of hubby kite surfing but we played around with it so you don't know it's him and it's red and black to match the room.
Kitchen has a sign from our wedding saying Home Is Where The Heart Is.
Dining room has our signing frame from the wedding, where guests wrote us messages and a photo of our wedding day.
Bathroom has photos us all at the beach .Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
I have a massive mirror facing outwards, so when you open the front door it is the first thing you see into the living room, then in the living room 2 sets of three canvas prints from Next, no originals here, going upstairs we have yearly photos of the boys, in the dining room we have loads of photos in different sized frames all on the dressing tables not hung up.0

I have photo collages of the people I love, a wedding photo, a large mirror and a canvas print in our colour scheme.
I don't have any rules about what's acceptable as long as I like it. We used to have a large framed print of a blue whale fluking - my late DH loved it but it didn't look right when we redecorated. I've no idea where it's hiding now...
In my dining room I have a wall art made of metal in the shape of poppies. Just plain Matt black but I really like it.Bossymoo

I have two canvases. In the bathroom I have a framed map and a country photo. But I'm definietly not a fan having people photos on the wall & those gigantic baby/ wedding/ children photos seem tacky to me.
Next do some really great budget wall art that still remains classy (not all of it but certainly some).0 -
Cuckoo clocks, a what-not cabinet and 3 wooden masks. We had a picture of Ganesh but it kept falling down so that's in a box waiting to go back up once the hook is replaced after Christmas 2012. :rotfl:
Cartoon Fishing pictures in the dining room and a cat tapestry picture (which I made years ago) on the stairs.
Photo of DD in my office.
We don't really like run of the mill ornaments. Most things we have are because we saw them (in an auction or bric a brac shop) and said "wow" or they made us laugh.
Somewhere I have a seaside picture I bought in Corfu and that will go up in the downstairs loo at some stage. However I am full of good intentions (hence the Ganesh pic not being up yet) so that may be some while off yet.0 -
I love art, so that was one of the first things I got when we got the house!
In my living room I've got 3 limited edition Alexander Chen lithographs (google him, he's awesome if you like hyper realism!), one of Las a wags, one of Santa Monica and one of Times Square New York. ETA: Also, I've got one of my Dad's photos of a local landmark, the Candlestick Chimney propped up against the wall on my built in cupboard.
In the hallway I've got one of my Dad's photographs (he's a photographer) of Ennerdale in the Lake District. It's awesome!
At the top of the stairs I have Edvard Munch's The Scream, that was one of the first pieces of art that I bought as I love it! I used to have Salvador Dali up in the living room too before I got the AC prints.
Wedding and family photos are on a shelf.0 -

Finally, position is all important, so measure the wall and position the stuff accordingly eg if a single item, then place it centrally in the centre of the wall .... or is that just my OCD kicking in?
I think that's the reason why I prefer odd numbers, because of my photography and art background. You're right, things do look best displayed in either 3's, 5's, or 7's.
I'm not a fan of the generic art work you can buy everywhere, much preferring to get Ltd Ed art work or display my Dad's work or my own (which I haven't done the latter yet). Although my MIL has a triptych of Brooklyn Bridge from Argos that looks really good in her living room, it ties in with the colour scheme beautifully.
Btw, Dunelm Mill, I'm a fan too! There's some gorgeous stuff.0 -
I don't have any art on my walls, have a few bits and pieces hanging up such as dreamcatchers and some other things, some stuff that got given to me when my gran died that were presents shed been given from the family.
The only place I might put a print or two would be my bedroom and I may do that when I'm finished decorating.
My mum has loads of art and cross stitch that she did and got framed in her living room, she has some nice prints.0 -
Big round mirror in the hall, going up the stairs are 4 canvas prints of photos I've taken.
In the living room, I do have a cluster of photos of the boys, all in the same style of frame but different sizes. They would just sit in a drawer or a cupboard otherwise and are always a talking point when people come round. Nothing over the fireplace at present because I'm about to decorate and want something different and can't decide what yet!
Kitchen, I used to have a black and white poster of Steve McQueen on his motorbike (whilst filming the Great Escape) but now I have big silver numbers in a circle (it's a clock you stick to the wall) and giant cutlery wall stickers.
Nothing on the walls in the bedrooms or bathroom (don't know why) but the (separate) toilet is so titchy we have a miniature gallery in there, postcard size prints and smaller frames with random stuff in.Over futile odds
And laughed at by the gods
And now the final frame
Love is a losing game0 -

You have a similar taste in art to me, although I couldn't have The Scream somewhere where I saw it whenever I went upstairs.
Had to google Chen, but it looks good(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0
