That sounds a really sensible decision Ani*fan. And as you say, you can always change your mind and buy a car at a later date if you like. Even if you changed your mind after 6 months and decided to take out a loan and buy one after all, think of the difference that 6 car-free months will have made to your debt free date, if you put the money saved towards that

Thanks for that DawnW, think I need a bit of encouragement with this just now. My pals think I'm mad. But really, the thought of the debt going up by £5k is just too much.
I can do this.

It looks like a certain famous speedy car buying company are going to buy my car for £600. I'll get another £70-odd back in road tax. I'm booked in to sell it tomorrow.

I'm already making plans for the £600. I have an outstanding conference fee to pay...£140. And I'd like £100 to start a Christmas pot, now that Christmas will be the next big bill coming up and NOT road tax and mot time.
The rest can get put towards the Virgin CC which should bring it down closer to £4k than it's ever been.

Watch them - they have a habit of offering an initial price, then backtracking and offering MUCH less when you actually go to do the deal. If they do this to you, push back. My son recently took his 4x4 to one of these, who had originally offered £750. When he got there they offered him £120. When he refused and went to leave, they asked him how much he wanted for it. He said he wanted at least £700. The agent had to 'go and phone his manager', after which they offered him the £700.0 -
Thanks for the advice DawnW. I've used this lot before so I have some experience of their games. Mostly I like them because they are quick and there is no come back from them. I'll see how much I can get but to be fair, this car owes me nothing. It's done its time with me, time to let it go.

Today I found a Christmas scratch card that I thought I'd lost. It was in an old bag that I wanted to wash. I've just been to cash it in. So...
£2 to the Virgin CC.

Just back from cashing in a 5 euro note I found in an old pair of jeans. I should clear out my wardrobe more often!
£3.52 to the Virgin CC.

That's the car sold. I got offered £330 and haggled it back up to £500 which is good enough.
Not sure why I feel so flat.
Maybe 'cos I didn't like the guy much.
Onwards with the debt busting. If you know you have enough, you're rich.
