    Hi everyone

How are you all doing? My debt is sitting almost exactly where it was when I last posted, a little bit lower, but I'm thinking this is good because it didn't go up. :-) I'm about to update my signature.

I got a small council tax rebate and have used it to make a pot for expenses coming up. I pondered paying it towards the debt but I'm trying to plan and be sensible so I'm keeping it. I have road tax, an mot and Christmas in my mind right now, very expensive things that I know are coming so I need to be ready.

    Happy debt busting day everyone!

So I had a look at my first post on this thread to see how far I've come. And it turns out I'm doing pretty well. In 6 months I have...

reduced the debt by over £2,000. :T reduced my monthly debt payments by £80 from £480 to £400. :T closed my horrible Cap 1 card account. :T become solvent. :T taken charge of my finances! :T

Here's to the next 6 months and even more success!!

    Hello my lovelies. :D

I could do with your words of wisdom, my dear mse friends.

I have a car situation on my hands. My brakes failed yesterday and my car went off to the garage today. I just had a phone call from them saying that there is over £2k worth of work needing done to my car to get it up to scratch. :(

Now some of this is not essential. They were talking about a £270 service for example. My car won't need this to pass it's mot in Novemeber.

However, the brake pipes, brake discs and other bits all need sorted. I've told them to sort my front pads and brakes for £400 to get me back on the road but basically it's decision time for me with this car.

It's a 4x4 which I used to need living in the country but don't now that I'm in a city. The trouble is I love the car, I really do. However, it is no longer practical to run, has a very expensive road tax and is a gas guzzler.

So I'm thinking I have a month or two to sell it if that's what I choose to do. However, the thought of a car loan has me freaking out. It's such a big expense every month, I don't want to end up struggling again to pay my bills every month. And spending another £1600 come mot time is surely better than a 3, 4 or 5k car loan?

I'm all in a muddle. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
