A laudible approach. I must admit it makes me sick when you hear of the ludicrous claims some people make.
Yes, if for instance you're self employed, and are unable to earn an income due to injury caused by someone else's stupidity, then it's fair to be compensated. If you're seriously injured and need to pay for ongoing private nursing care, again fair enough. But claiming for "whiplash" after a 5mph shunt is ridiculous.
I'd also throw into the equation the question of blame. If you are injured by a drunk driver, he's to blame and should take full responsibility. If you are involved in an accident, then there's no blame - the clue's in the word "accident". It's tough, accidents happen. It's not nice, but life's not always fair. Let's say I trip over a tree root whilst walking through a wood, and break my arm. Not nice, but why should I expect to make some money out of the incident ? I wouldn't.0 -

Depending on what caused the accident, there may be blame.
Most accidents whilst driving occur due to someone's negligence. Hence insurance is needed for liability reasons. All your base are belong to us.0 -
Unfortunately the Uk, more England and Wales, is the whiplash capital of Europe with more claims then any other country, bit like the Uk being the benefit claim capital of the uk with more alleged sickies then any other country.
I think it's just the fraudulent make up of the inhabitants, and an easy free money attitude, unfortunately the fraudulent whip cash claims cost each motorist, (who bother to insure their car) around £90 per person

Yeah, don't claim your losses, let the greedy insurance gits keep all the money they fleece out of us.
We will all be happier if they are richer.Be happy...;)0 -
Yeah let's all pay out for the greedy fraudster gits, yeah, easy money.0

When I was 17 (a long time ago) a car knocked me off my motorbike and wrote it off. I got royally stuffed by the insurance company and ended up paying the finance company a couple of hundred quid more than I got paid out. In 1977 £200 was a LOT of money. That taught me a big lesson.
Do unto others as they would do to you. (but do it first)
If you get clouted by another driver claim everything you are legally allowed.
Insurers are all shysters and deserve everything they get (legally).0 -
Indeed Nodding Donkey
It was far from rare for completely innocent road users to lose money even though they were properly insured.0 -
I don't see why the worm should turn at all to be honest. Half the time someone is inconvenienced by someone elses stupidity and they then suffer a loss for it.
Last year a surgeon operated on me using the gung-ho approach and nearly killed me. He refused to believe there was anything wrong for two days until I was knocking at deaths door. Would I like compensating? Yes but I don't think it will happen just like all the other **** the nhs have passed my way.
The trouble with the UK is that its been dog eat dog for so long now that it's become a way of life for most people. You then get politicians slating people at the bottom for being wrong, workshy, sick (not really) etc for the actions that they keep imposing on society top down in order to benefit themselves. When that happens, people at the bottom will naturally fight back in any way that they can.0 -
The times I look in my rear view mirror and see someone who thinks the safe stopping distance is 5 feet.
I do wonder if they are the same people who grumble about "greedy " whiplash claims.
If you don't drive up the backside of the car in front, you will never have to have one.Be happy...;)0 -

There are a million ways an accident can happen, and tailgating isn't all of them0
