Were you in charge of your Mum's guest list OP ?
What kind of relationship do they have with your Mum ? Is it a "second Mum" relationship or a hello if they see her in the street relationship. Do they not have many family and assumed they had "cousin" status in yours ....are they round to tea at your Mum's on a regular basis.................
