I don't think leggings look that bad?'c if I was going to a wedding if have to raid my wardrobe and most of those dresses, if I was going out and "dressing up" I would wear with leggings. It's a nightmare trying to find tights that fit well and that last more than one wear.

That said the dress I wore the other night had unicorns and rainbows on so I don't generally have a lot of normal dressy stuff.

I'm just glad nobody I know is getting married. :o and of the friends I'm close to most are alternative types anyway so doubt they'd object to unicorns or leggings!

Leggings are definitely too casual for a wedding.

I know people who have got married in their jeans, they wouldnt have cared if I had rocked up in leggings.

If I got married, would I care if a friend of mine turned up wearing a dress and leggings? Not at all. They are there to celebrate a wedding, thats the most important thing as far as Im concerned.

However if I went to a wedding where it was clear there was a dress code, Id try my very best to adhere to it.

Yes but presumably you knew they were wearing jeans beforehand and it was a more casual thing?

Some couples might not care even if their wedding was a grander affair, if someone turned up in leggings and a dress.

Surely a wedding is an individual event. There seems to be an unspoken rule that certain clothing items arent appropriate for a wedding, Im just not sure how people come to that conclusion.

You will always get different opinions, the long thread that was on here a few months ago was full of them, for example some people said that black was a total no no for weddings, others said it would be ok.
  • I think the key is to be smart but comfortable too. There's no point being uncomfortable all day because you're wearing something you normally wouldn't even consider.

I'm not a dress/skirt wearing kind of girl either, so I would have no objections to wearing leggings, although they would be a dressier (if that's possible!) pair than my normal day to day ones.

On the occasions I have wore a dress, they've mainly been maxi dresses, but I also think a trouser suit is a smart alternative.

You can usually tell how formal you need to be from the venue/invitation.

No, most people aren't going to get upset if you show up in leggings, or jeans, or trainers, but the idea of different clothing being appropriate for different occasions is not a particularly radical idea!

You wouldn't go to the theatre in trackie bottoms and trainers, you wouldn't go to a job interview in a strappy sundress, you wouldn't go to a barbecue in a suit, and most people wouldn't go to a wedding in leggings unless it was very obviously a very casual one.

As long as you're clean, smart and turn up on time you can wear what you like.

For me, I think its more about how someone looks in what they are wearing. Ive seen people look a right old state in dresses and heels. People who look like they got dressed in the dark, or people who spend fortunes on what they are wearing and still look awful. If someone looked good in said leggings and a dress, as far as Im concerned fine.

    I agree.

Still not sure about the tutu, I have a couple of tutus, wouldnt want anyone to upstage me:rotfl:

Before I give the impression that I knock about in tutus all day long, each time has been for a weekend away that had a certain colour theme or a certain other theme

I might draw the line at dr martens and a grass skirt though
