I see this thread has been resurrected again so I thought I’d join in
I also have type 2 diabetes and really struggle to lose weight. Unfortunately some of the most popular meds are notorious for making you put on weight.
We have a new diabetes nurse who is a great fan of low carb and she has changed one of my meds to an injection once a week. She advised me that this would help me lose weight.
I started on my new low carb regime on 18th September and I record it on a little app so I can check my progress. I have lost 22 lbs so far
My OH is low carbing as well so we start it in the supermarket. We have banished anything with flour, sugar and other high carb ingredients. Our treats are something like raspberries and blueberries, 2 of the lowest carb fruits.
Going without bread has been the most difficult bit and I am very fond of pizza which is a very big “NO”
There are a number of low carb bread and pizza recipes on the internet, I might give one a go.
One of the best things is going through a box clothes which I have labelled “things I can nearly get into” :rotfl: and find I can get into most of them now.
For the first time ever I am looking forward to my next blood test which is just before Christmas. This will show how I am really doing
Thanks for reading.0 -

I’ve also got a suitcase full of clothes which are too small but I should be able to get into eventually. They include a pair of casual fit Calvin Klein jeans which I bought in the USA nearly 30 years ago. The Holy Grail of my weight loss is to get into them again and seriously reduce my diabetes meds. The new stuff that I have to inject is famous for aiding weight loss and it has dulled my appetite so I don’t feel the need to snack any more.0 -
Congratulations on the weight loss Murphybear, I can definetly relate to how good it feels to get into clothes that didn't use to fit.
I would like to share my journey here on how I was obese for years before losing the weight. Multiple times I tried low fat and calorie counting which just ended in failure. The more weight I put on the more my joints hurt and my blood pressure rose. It was getting a struggle to even climb the stairs of our house without hoisting myself up using the bannisters, getting out of breath and then coming back down again one careful step at a time.
I had tried low carb before - went diving straight into it but could never get past the brain fog and low mood symptoms before giving up. I decided to have another attempt back in Oct 2017 but this time by gradually lowering carbs and sugar rather than cutting them all out at once. By the end of 2017 I had lost a stone.
I continued Jan 2018 after a brief Christmas break and started following some Youtube channels for ideas. I kept coming across the word Keto and decided to give it a shot. I started (and this may sound disgusting) with a bulletproof coffee made with double cream and a teaspoon of butter every morning. I still do this and have continued with Keto as I feel it would be a mistake to fully return to how I use to eat.
I lost a further 6 stone throughout 2018 and have kept the weight off, although I put half a stone back on as I was starting to look a little gaunt. Things I use to eat now taste so horrifically sweet if I try them and cravings for sweet pastries/doughy goods (which was the worst for gorging on) have long gone.
The Youtube channel that really helped to turn my life around is by an American guy called Butter Bob; especially his videos 'At the Walmart store' and 'Butter makes your pants fall off'. All that remains now is to get my better half off the damn biscuits as he is diagnosed pre-diabetic.1 -
I just try to keep below 50 carbs a day, no pasta or rice, no loss as not that keen, potatoes and bread are my weakness, I use carb manager app, it`s not strict for me some days may be more some less, I do restrict cream and cheese.
Starting back today 12st 7lb, I don`t go below 10st as I too look gaunt. Anyone else like to lose a stone for Christmas.Do I need it or just want it.0 -
I’ll join you. I’m 11st 8 and would love to lose a stone before Xmas. I need motivation!0

If anyone likes peanut butter I think this may be one of the lowest carb ones out there - Whole Earth with mixed seeds is 4.6 gr of carbs per 100 gr + no added sugar. A bit expensive at full price but I got some on offer for £2.50. Only trouble is I finished it off too quick as its so nice.

They sell Whole Earth at B&M, not aware of price but worth a look if one near you, Bathory.
Still struggling to get going but will from Monday, hopefully.Do I need it or just want it.0 -

Just think “I can’t eat any of the following unless I lose that stone first”
Roast potatoes
Christmas pudding
Mince pies
Cream
Sausage rolls
Crisps
Cake (I adore Christmas cake but I know not everybody does)
Pigs in blankets
Anything that has got the magic word “chocolate” in it
Trifle
Most other desserts you get at Christmas
Just a few to start with.
Not to mention the wine, brandy etc0 -

I like peanut butter but since I started low carbing I have given up bread completely. Peanut butter is not so nice without bread. Have you thought about making your own? It would probably be cheaper and you leave the nasties like palm oil and put in whatever extras you fancy, seeds or other nuts. 4.6 carbs per 100 g sounds quite low0
