  • Hi Pam

Could you try making tubs of egg mayo, or chicken pieces or cheese. Failing that an atkins shake or bar?

    Hope you enjoyed the beach

    Dear all

I've been trying to find people who are doing the Harcombe Diet and this seems to be the natural home! However the search facility on MSE finds no mentions - which has to be ridiculous.

Has anyone done this? I've read one of her books and that way of eating to lose weight (or even for health in general) seems to be attractive, however I've realised that it's not a million miles from how I eat at the moment anyway, the only difference seems to be that I have tea, coffee, dairy but meat only a couple of times a week. For example last night's tea was huge salad, small tin sardines in oil. Today brek was 25g porridge made with water, topped with dollop of plain yoghurt. Lunch butternut squash soup, tea will be h/m bolognese on top of green beans. So not a huge amount of carbs anyway.

Can anyone share their experiences with this (or point me to the right board?)? I want to lose around a stone or so.

I plan to go shopping tomorrow, will buy more meat but could do with some advice first. Thanks

    LJ

Hi elljay, I googled the Harcombe diet, they have a facebook page and also on pin interest, looks quite similar to low carbing as you say,

Hi, I'm fairly new to low carbing (type 2 diabetic) but have managed to lose 1½ stone so far - however am really struggling with lunches. Can anyone give me any pointers?

    Thanks.

Just found this thread. May I join please. I am trying to eat a more paleo style of diet, mainly for health reasons but also to lose some weight.

I'm off to read the full thread, hoping to get recipes and ideas.

I need to find more paleo type breakfast ideas.

Frugalista - are you at work, if so do you have access to a microwave or table top oven, other than that, I guess salads with cold meats or fish and soups are probably your best bet. I'm at home during the day so lunches aren't a problem but I think if you are at work then it could be more difficult.
  • Frugalista, I work at home now which is so much easier, but this is what I used to do for lunch at work:

Leftovers - chili, curry, stir-fry, mexican, creamy chicken & rice (all of which I found okay cold since we didn't have a microwave, but obviously ymmv)
    Salads
Dip and crudities - simple dip of equal parts mayo and cream cheese with sticks of cucumber, carrot, pepper, celery, cauliflower etc. and sometimes some ham or hard-boiled egg or even cheese, which are also nice to dip in
    Soup in a flask

Lessonlearned, breakfasts that are truly low carb are harder if, like me, you really like something creamy and sweet in the morning! The only ones that really work for weight loss that I've found are variations on eggs and bacon etc. but I've got to the point after four years that I just can't stomach eggs first thing more than once or twice a week. I sometimes have eggs scrambled with coconut oil and butter, with a bit of courgette grated in, which is nice.

    Less strictly low carb breakfasts:

Granola with cream, Greek yoghurt and berries - I make variations on this one: http://www.chezlarsson.com/myblog/2012/09/low-carb-granola.html

Coconut flour pancakes with cream and berries or almond butter and chocolate chips - https://amomonamission.wordpress.com/2011/07/18/paleo-pancakes-with-coconut-flour/ - I make a batch of these every Saturday morning and they do me and my son two to three breakfasts during the week as well.

Chia seed 'pudding' - http://www.ditchthecarbs.com/2014/06/04/low-carb-chia-breakfasts/ - not that low carb for me as I can't stomach stevia as the only sweetner, but definitely yummy and lots of benefits of chia seeds!

I'm going to be putting all those aside for a while as from Monday (after Dad's birthday party on Sunday) as I'm going to start a strict keto diet to try and lose some of the 11 lbs I've put on in the last year...

Angelfeathers - thanks for that. Like you I Am struggling to face eggs every day so will definitely have a go with those ideas.

I already eat Greek yogurt and berries sometimes. I will try the pancakes, sounds tummy. TBH I never thought about batch cooking them in advance. Doh.:rotfl:

I want to lose at least 2 stones, preferably 3.

Ive just looked at those links.

I've done Home made granola before so that's a great idea. Have never tried chia seeds but will definitely give those a whirl. I miss eating porridge so the chia puddings will hopefully be similar.

    Thanks so much for that.

I have most the ingredients I need, just need to get the chia seeds and a few more nuts.

Today's breakfast was Greek yoghurt. Lunch was carrot and butternut squash soup followed by last nights left over home made coleslaw and chopped beetroot salads.

Tonight I have some cold chicken so thought I'd make a chicken and leek pie type thing, but with sweet potato topping rather than pastry.

I have been trialling paleo for a few months now partly due to wheat and grain intolerance but hopefully to lose weight too. On the whole I have been quite successful so far but recently found I was getting in a bit of a rut so I'm now going to try new recipes and ideas.

Time to get in that kitchen and start experimenting......

.I would like to lose 2 stones by May for my son's wedding. And then a further stone by next Christmas.

Hopefully posting on here will help me stay on track.

Just edited to add. I don't know if I'm ok posting here because paleo is not quite the same as say, Atkins, or very low carbing. I do eat quite a lot of vegetables so obviously I get carbs from those.

If I'm confusing anyone by posting here I could start a new thread if you prefer......

Great to see some activity on this thread, I am currently struggling a little, going on hols to New Orleans next week, cruise for 7 days then back to Nola before flying home, 2 weeks in total, I think I have it in my head,I can`t do this at the moment, yet in fact it would be quite easy, make the right choices, so will try my best, hope to see loads of interesting ideas on my return, will need to knuckle down to it then.
