I joined SW yesterday I have been counting calories, I am really worried that I am going to put on weight with all this free food. Did anyone gain on their first weight in? I need to lose every week to keep me going, when I'm good I'm very good and stick to it to the letter, but don't want to gain

It's really hard to get out of the 'diet' mentality and accept that SW is a balanced healthy eating plan. So no problem with the free foods but be sure to have your one third fruit and veg (especially veg) every day.

mildredd, was interested to hear your 'confessions'. Like you I cut some corners on SW and decided that I could tighten up if I ever plateaued and needed to. Fortunately it didn't happen. One example was that I measured my milk and cereal for HEXs in the first week or so to get a feel for how far it would go and then after that I just accepted that what I used in tea/for breakfast every day was OK. Same with gravy: I make my own on a Sunday with meat juices and have no idea how to syn it but just know I'll have enough syns left based on what I was eating the rest of the week.

I think the reason SW say 10-15 syns a day is because it's hard to syn some things precisely and that 5 gives leeway for mistakes. It's easy to syn a slice of bread but a slice of HM cake s far more problematic.

Hello all. It's good to see old friends back here. Shala, well done on turning over a new leaf.

    Sunday's Menu
Breakfast: porridge made with water and salt
Lunch: half pack Uncle Ben's bacon & mushroom risotto (3 syns), ML vanilla & choc sprinkle yogurt
Dinner:SW Greek style lamb with garlic & lemon, braised potatoes, green beans
Not had any snacks yet, also conscious that I'm light on fruit/veg today, plus still to have hexa. Supper may be 3 mini babybel light (hexa) with grapes and carrot sticks.

    total: 3 syns
Bank Balance:37 - and only Monday to go before WI on Tuesday am. I'll probably use a lot up tomorrow as I have hospital appointment around lunchtime. With travelling time it'll be too early to eat before I leave and I'll be ravenous if I wait until I get home - and then I'd eat all the wrong things!

Good luck all and have a happy Monday! :)

Survived the roast! Synned one roast potato and one spoon of applesauce and the gravy. 5.5 total, Wooh. Avoided the crackling entirely *proud*

Breakfast: pineapple, banana, last of the strawberries, muller light Greek coconut (1/2)

I started on Wed and am also feeling like I'm eating a lot. I came home from work yesterday and needed a snack *instantly*. However, I plugged my diary into myfitnesspal out of interest and I had just over 1300 calories despite feeling as though I was shovelling it in all day! I'm consciously trying to have more SF before anything else. Have faith!

Hi chipsdog, I'm the 'weigh-in lady' at my group and it's very rare to see a gain in the first week. On the odd occasion there is one, it's usually that the person had a really naughty week before they joined or there was something in the plan they misunderstood.

I love it when people set out to stuff themselves silly to prove the plan wont work, only to have a ridiculous 9lb loss!!

Beanie, sorry I didn't realise you had to buy 10 different items to get the Mr T price promise spit. Thanks for the info Shala.

    Chicken and Mushroom Medley

    Ingredients

8 skinless chicken drumsticks or 4 chicken breasts
    1 onion, finely chopped
    2 sticks celery, finely chopped
    275g button mushrooms, sliced
    1.2 litres chicken stock
    1 tbsp tomato puree
    Thyme and parsley
    Salt and pepper
    Fry Light
    Method

Place the onion, celery, mushrooms, chicken stock, and tomato pur!e in a saucepan and bring to the boil then simmer for 10 minutes.
Spray a little Fry light into a frying pan and brown the chicken portions for 5 minutes, turning to ensure they are evenly browned.
Transfer to a slow-cooker and pour over the contents of the saucepan. Season well with salt and pepper and add the thyme. Turn the crock pot to high, cover and leave for 5 hours.
Just before serving, stir in the parsley. Enjoy with potatoes and your favourite vegetables.

I didn't do it in a slow-cooker, just simmered in a saucepan until everything was cooked and the liquid reduced and thickened. :)
