hi all. iv been lurking and reading this fabulous thread for a few weeks now, following plan, and im now very near to target.
but i have a little problem, this months money is a little tight so i need to lower my food bill a bit, we are a family of 4, we all eat 3 meals a day from the kitchen and i usually spend £100 a week. as slimming world fits into family life so easily i cook the same evening meal for all of us but we have different breakfasts and lunches. can anyone suggest some cheaper evening meals for us to have? wer not picky and will try anything, but it needs to have 1/3 superfree.
obviously i know the basics like jacket potatoes or egg and chips but i cant just keep serving these! i made a turkey lasagna on saturday night and added up how much it cost to make- £6.70! i served with salad and some garlic bread for the others, but iv realized that's why we spend so much!!
I don't have any meal suggestions as such but I know our consultant has on occasions talked about how free foods doesn't have to mean fresh food and has sometimes come along to class with a bag of the supermarket own brand basic tinned foods, tinned carrots etc
I agree with the comment about the book A Girl called Jack - she has a blog so you can probably get some ideas from that.
I always try to buy value/basic veg if I can because if I recall correctly, its no different to the veg you would buy at a premium price - the only difference is the basic/value veg might be a bit misshapen.

Thanks for all your comments. I know I don't want to give up but sometimes that seems like the easiest option. I think I need to sit down and meal plan and follow it ! and stop buying synful treats as once my day goes pearshaped, I seem to lose the plot !0 -
Back from holiday yesterday but didn't have time to post - also haven't had time to read all the posts which I missed as had no internet access at all! Didn't realise there are so many areas of the country without internet access (we even have an long range wifi ariel!).
Had a sneaky weigh this morning and not looking too bad, looks as though I've put on a couple of pounds but still within target range:T:T. Got back on plan yesterday with a big SW breakfast before we left to travel home and then had a chicken jambalaya which I'd cooked in a thermal cookpot while we travelled home; 'twas yummy enough to have it for lunch and dinner! Both DH and me have the rest of it for lunch today. Syns for yesterday totalled 3.5 which should help a bit with losing a bit before WI on Thursday morning.
Today is another EE day:
B - SW fry up
L - LO chicken jambalaya
D - Steak, SW chips, onions, peppers & mushrooms (mushrooms need using up!)
Only syns in that lot is 1 for a small amount of chorizo which I had in the fridge which needed using up so went into the jambalaya (was only 4 syns for the piece so have called it 1 syn per portion, even though I've managed to get 6 portions from it!)
Have meal planned for the next few days so off to get a bit of shopping, particularly fresh fruit and veg, which has been in very limited supply whilst away as we weren't near any shops and had taken most of our food with us.

BJD
Mushy pea curry? Even doubled up in quantities is fairly cheap with rice and/or sw chips?
Sw burgers
A casserole / hotpot
A roast dinner
My spag Bol mix makes 10 portions generally for £4 of extra lean mince?
Quiche?
Sausages mash/ sausage dinner / sausage casserole
Roasted veg with chicken portions?
A soup?
Pastas?
Can you not adapt your normal meals to just be sw friendly as that's what I tend to do that way I don't feel deprived in anyway?
£6.70 for 4 portions is quite a lot not including sides as well really xxx
Plus some seasonal veg is like 49p a pack in supermarkets so that can always be used to bulk up a sf portion?
i do think sometimes it doesn't always help to plan my meals before i go shopping as the i don't make to most of whats actually on offer! sounds silly but if iv put down i need a cauli for example, but broccoli are half the price i still buy the cauli!0 -
thank you everyone for the suggestions, i will have a look at a girl called jacks site in a mo.
i have got lazy about bulking my mince out with extras so will get back on that tazzyb
maman i will add some of these meals to my plan thanks
i do cook a small piece of gammon every week to use in sandwiches/pasta/couscous lunches instead of buying packet meat but it might be worth buying a bigger one to have for tea aswell thanks meg720 -
